PopHorror Let's Get Scared
Part of being a horror fan on social media is expressing what we don’t like, like a bunch of lemmings. The very name Rob Zombie triggers some. I don’t understand why there is so much hate for his films. I mean, let’s face reality here and agree that he knows his stuff when it comes to the horror genre. Today, I am breaking the mold and writing an honest review of Rob Zombie’s Halloween II.
Synopsis
Michael Myers (Tyler Mane) has survived a long and painful night, so he just hunts down his sister. It quickly picks up with kills. While Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor Compton) babysits, the night becomes more intense. As he is living in his head, Michael gets advice from his dead mother and his younger self, and will stop at nothing to get his baby sister forever. Will she survive the nght?
Weighing In
First, Rob Zombie’s Halloween II is a cinematic masterpiece to me. I love how the story escalates into chaos. With Rob Zombie’s movies, he makes things simple but also complicated. If you don’t fall right into this film, you won’t be able to focus. You have to put your thinking cap on here. What I can say is that I am more of a fan of his movies than of his music.
He needs to stick to making movies because he did it so well. Armchair critics can sometimes be mouthy and hurtful, making the genre toxic. People get put down by someone who has a different idea from theirs. Rob Zombie’s Halloween II is constantly on the chopping block, and I am still unsure why. Maybe it was the hallucinations that people didn’t understand. Maybe it was a B movie-rated actress. These are the questions that need to be discussed in a meaningful way.
I thought the settings and scenery captured the moment perfectly, and it still had the grit of John Carpenter’s Halloween in 1978. Rob Zombie’s Halloween II had a great cast who knew the mission. He even gave us the gift of former Halloween 4 and 5 actresses such as Danielle Harris and held a flame to actors like Brad Dourif (Child’s Play) and Richard Brake (Rob Zombie’s 31). Rob Zombie has a particular family that returns for every movie and gives their all. It takes a great team that is comfortable around each other so they keep returning.
Mommy’s Boy
There is also the same thing everyone says: Sheri Moon Zombie (Lords of Salem) is a terrible actress, so bully her in comment sections. I will give you an honest answer here in most movies, she is supposed to act like she did. It’s not about bringing his wife into all movies; I think this is one of her creepier moments. The idea of the ghostly woman on the pale horse made me jumpy. The way she portrayed the ghostly mother leading her son along was spot on. Despite the clashes with the Weinstein Company, I still love it and appreciate that he gave us this movie without even wanting to.
Final Thought
You can like what you do without anyone telling you differently. You do you and stick with what you like. Your opinion doesn’t hurt anyone; be proud of your hobbies and interests. In the world of cyberbullying, be an advocate.
