Justin G. Dyck’s ‘Anything for Jackson’ (2020) – Nightstream Film Festival 2020 Movie Review

Another great film that premiered tonight at Nightstream Film Festival is the gritty horror feature, Anything for Jackson. A story that shows the risks two grieving grandparents are willing to make to be with their grandchild again.

This film was directed by Justin G. Dyck with a screenplay by Keith Cooper. The film stars Sheila McCarthy (check out our interview with her – here), Julian Richings, and Konstantina Mantelos.

Synopsis for Anything for Jackson

A bereaved Satanist couple kidnap a pregnant woman so they can use an ancient spellbook to put their dead grandson’s spirit into her unborn child but end up summoning more than they bargained for.

Anything for Jackson

Anything for Jackson was a heart-wrenching story about loss and the risks some people will take to get back their loved ones. The cinematography was beautifully shot, it delivered a haunting dreadful atmosphere, award-winning performances, and some of the best specific effects I’ve seen in a long time.

Anything for Jackson

Sheila McCarthy and Julian Richings delivered heart-wrenching and emotionally-powered performances that will almost make you forgive their characters for what they’re doing. They each play a huge part in the success of this film and have great chemistry together and their bond felt raw and genuine. Konstantina Mantelos also delivered a phenomenal performance. Her character goes through hell and back but stayed strong and resourceful despite the nightmare she was facing.

Anything for Jackson delivered some of the creepiest and horrifying creatures, imagery, and special effects that I’ve seen in a long time. Some of the imagery and scenes may haunt for me a good while especially the creepy lady who kept flossing her teeth!

Final Thoughts

This film was chalked full of emotions and a beautifully crafted story. I can’t wait to see how others react to Anything for Jackson.
