Nightmares Film Festival 2020 – Short Films Block ‘Horror Shorts – B’ Review

I had the chance to watch the short film block, Horror Shorts-B for Nightmares Film Festival 2020. Each film was a treat and spoke to my short horror film-loving heart. Let’s meet the line-up and read my thoughts.

The Relic

Horror Shorts-B

Synopsis:

A group of adventurers in search of a mythological object get more than they bargained for when they discover the legend foretelling the end of all life in the universe could actually be true.

This film jumps into action right away and doesn’t let up! Enjoyed this one from start to finish. Definitely some Lovecraftian influence here!

White Van

Horror Shorts-B

Synopsis:

A woman being held captive in a white van escapes her captor only to find herself back where she started.

This one was creepy, and I like how they brought current events into this short but not in a overdone way. A fun thrill ride.

The Smiler

Horror Shorts-B

Synopsis:

A couple vacationing together in an effort to improve their relationship are haunted by a mysterious witch.

This witch legit creeped me out! I can still see her! Great performances! And did I mention that witch?

Truth or Scare

Horror Shorts-B

Synopsis:

On Halloween night, a friendship is tested when an innocent game turns sinister.

Truth Or Scare has an ’80s vibe to it, and you know that makes my heart happy. These types of films where “innocent games” turn sinister are always some of my favorites. This one doesn’t disappoint.

Endgame

Horror Shorts-B

Synopsis:

A father’s cautionary tale about internet safety turns sinister when the lines between truth and fiction are blurred.

I can’t pick a favorite out of this Horror Shorts-B block, but this one would be at the top. This cautionary tale creeped me out and the performances are so believable. Top notch short film!

Landgraves

Horror Shorts-B

Synopsis:

A young journalist goes into the deep wood to interview the heavy-metal duo LANDGRAVES, who records an album for the first time since a murder imprisonment.

This short isn’t like any I’ve seen before. Definitely original! Fast-paced and well acted!

Soon Comes Night

Horror Shorts-B

Synopsis:

Death waits for no one.

This one got to me! It delves into the circle of life: for each person born, one dies. It was touching and creepy and one of my favorites!

Skitoz

Horror Shorts-B

Synopsis:

A caravan in the desert… An old couple… A beer, a joint and moskitos.

This was a different and fun short! The synopsis pretty much sums it up, and it is done in such a way, as crazy at that all sounds, that it works!

I can, without a doubt, say that I enjoyed all of these films immensely! If you get the chance to see any of these short films, don’t hesitate! They are all must sees!
