The very name is a legend beyond a whisper. Stephen King is, of course, the King. Not only have his books made generations squirm, but movies that involved his work are mostly top-tier entertainment for all kinds of reasons, in the end however, it’s the story. The movies were such great PR for people who wanted to see how different the movie was from the book. Most times, the book is ten times creepier. However; there are a lot of movies involving his work, I have seen almost every single movie multiple times and compared.
Here is my list of top Stephen King movie adaptations.
Creepshow 1 and 2
I am not even gonna lie, these movies are treasured by me beyond all others. I had to pull the ace card early. The first two Creepshow movies involved three of the most beloved names in horror such as Tom Savini, George A. Romero, and Stephen King. Some argue that Creepshow 3 was terrible due to the hardest workers in the industry, they didn’t make a comeback, and the series went into oblivion. I enjoyed Creepshow 3 for a few reasons and sometimes it feels like I am the only one.
Cujo
I saw Cujo when I was too young for such an intense film. I was terrified of dogs for a while after this, especially big ones. I have gotten over the fear somewhat, but it still remains deep down inside. This wasn’t like zombies running around, this is something that could happen to anyone. I learned to love Cujo in my later teens when I finally got the guts to watch it again. The fear was still strong, but I forced myself to watch Cujo.
Maximum Overdrive
This will always be one of my favorite movies, even the child in me enjoyed this romp. Don’t ask me why, but I fell in love with the idea of electronics and vehicles creating carnage, but not too gory. It was the perfect mix for me at the time, not too soon after I found my love for gore because of Tom Savini. This film just hit at exactly the right time for me. Maximum Overdrive made me laugh out loud to claim dominance over all the weird noises I heard. .
Apt Pupil
The ultimate story of manipulation. What happens to someone when you bring up their past? Especially if your past is being a Nazi. The movie did, however; pull a positive message out of it. That message is don’t let anyone degrade you for the person you are today. There were a lot of frightening moments in this film, even if it isn’t your common Stephen King story.
Thinner
Thinner came out at a time when I was fully understanding horror movies. The idea of wasting away to nothing is terrifying in itself. Watching yourself slowly fade away has to be the worst way to go. This film is a reminder to wait until you get home for hanky panky. Also, don’t run over anyone who can cast a curse on you.
Pet Sematary Bloodlines
A lot of people turned their nose up at this film, however; I enjoyed it. This is where it all started with Judd and the woman he loves. This movie held ties as one of the many stories together. We hear so much about Judd and his wife’s lives that it’s almost as if you know the person well after reading the story.
The Rage: Carrie 2
This one holds so many memories. As a kid, my mom and I must have watched this movie a hundred times, and it’s still in my monthly rotation of movies, That’s how much I loved it. The movie is still tough to watch sometimes because I spent years watching this over and over. When I moved out to California it wasn’t much different. My best friend and I just carried on the tradition of wearing this movie out. The story of when bullying and shaming goes too far, and someone has to pay for it.
The Mangler
This is every shop owner’s biggest fear… Well, maybe it should be, unless you are a maniac like we see here. Who doesn’t like a terrifying movie about a killer machine? The delivery wasn’t as silly as the films of today about killer donuts and teeth in places they shouldn’t be. To be honest, this movie also scared the hell out of me. That made me love this film even more.
Sometimes They Come Back
This movie also holds a lot of memories with my mom and I hold these memories tightly. This movie was also pure nightmare fuel. Another classic from Stephen King with an original story. This was such a creative plot. I carried the tradition of this film with my oldest daughter, it’s our bonding time,e and little by little she is starting to accept horror, what else can we wish for?
Rose Red
I have been a fan of this film since it first premiered on TV. This is another movie that I share with my daughter. The good thing about this movie is that it doesn’t need gore to make you cringe at certain moments. It’s just a great ghost story that takes hours to process through. However; Rose Red has an ominous feeling the entire time. You don’t need to wait for something to happen because the movie gets right to the point early. The rest is just pure horror, in a fun and almost innocent way.
That’s it, my top 10 Stephen King movies. The man’s legacy is top-tier. Do you agree with our list? Let us know in the comments!
