Hulu’s new thriller, False Positive delivers one hell of a disturbing thriller. The film stars Ilana Glazer, Justin Theroux, Pierce Brosnan, Sophia Bush, and Gretchen Mol.
Synopsis for False Positive
After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Ilana Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” As if getting pregnant weren’t complicated enough…
False Positive delivered a throat punch thriller that will drive you insane with its misogyny and disrespect to a woman’s right to her own body. At first, this film starts out pretty normal, a sweet couple anxious to start a family. However, little by little you can feel the uncertainty and betrayal in the atmosphere and nothing is at it seems. Lucy knows something is wrong, a mother’s intuition never fails. Despite her concerns, her worries and efforts to change doctors are ignored and she’s continuously “mansplained” to about her own pregnancy and body.
The film delivers award-winning and emotionally powerful performances. As always, Pierce Brosnan is a national treasure. His character is charismatic, sensational, and creepy as fuck. He has a dark side and Pierce taps into that darkness and takes it to a whole new level. Ilana Glazer brings her character to life with wit, beauty, and badassery. Lucy goes through hell and back but doesn’t fail to teach others what happens when you mess with a woman’s body.
There were several “oh shit” moments throughout False Positive and although I foresaw some of them happening it didn’t shock me any less. However, there are a few scenes that I never saw coming that may leave you speechless. Imprinted in my memory forever.
False Positive blew me away with its in-your-face boldness, emotionally driven performances, an intense story buildup, and I highly recommend checking it out. It is streaming now only on HULU!
