Is Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate just another port or has it actually surpassed the port stage of gaming? A real monster hunter game with the difficulty that only the east gets, this one sure has made an impression. The game play, visuals, and music were great, and now, it’s gotten even better. Ultimate truly lives up to the name and gives you everything that you could ask for.
The Story
In Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, you must search out monsters and either slay them or capture them. Nothing in the single player mode gives you any direction nor guides. You get two palicos (cats) to help you along your way, and as you play, completing certain missions will unlock new swag and new adventures to be had. Once you get out of low and high rank, you must beat the hardest single player monsters I’ve ever fought to win the game.
Clean Gameplay, But Hard To Master
Unlike some monster hunter worlds, this game is the real deal. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate has increased the ways you can play, with added difficulty levels and new armors that will have you grinding for hours. There are tons of different weapons to choose from and, depending on your style, you can get up to three hunter arts and increase their potency with SP points. Some combos are easy while others will have you struggling to master them as you push to beat the game. Every weapon has its own specialty with the ability to changes the skills.
Early on, your armor skills don’t matter too much, but if you expect to beat those elder dragons, you are going to rely on that high ranking armor with at least 2 active skills. You can collect these armors as drops after defeating some of the bigger monsters, although there’s sometimes only a 10% to actually obtain them, which can be infuriating. In the end, you will probably end up with pages upon pages of items that you’ve collected. As someone who enjoys getting paid, those items are like my dragon hoard. The higher the rarity, the more they’re worth and the harder they are to use.
Multiplayer Is Where All The Fun Is
As I’m writing this, my friends and I have put in over 140+ hours into the multiplayer aspect of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. Nothing is more satisfying then nearly being killed by a giant unicorn and having your friend jumping in front of the lightning strike to protect you. Of course, the multiplayer monsters are 4 times as hard to kill, but they’re also more likely to give you exclusive gear. My day was made the moment I got my Fairy Tail gear from one of our gameplay sessions. Multiplayer consistently has people playing, and once you beat the multiplayer mode, you still have stuff to unlock before you can even get everything.
This Game Is For True Gamers
I would not recommend Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate to any casual gamer. However, I would suggest it to someone who gets bored with average video games quickly since this one is certainly tougher than most. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is one of my most played games in the last month. The difficulty of this game combines with the awesome scenes make this game a solid 8 out of 10 for me everyday of the week.
