The film location for Sleepaway Camp (1983) was an actual, functioning camp. It was where Robert Hiltzik went camping during the summers as a child. Hopefully, his camping experiences were better.

Typically, a connection between “Weird Al” Yankovic and a horror film doesn’t seem possible, but here it is. The man of parody decided to venture into the horror genre for inspiration. Apparently, Sleepaway Camp (1983) and Friday the 13th: Part 3 (1982) provided the spark of genius for Al’s song “Nature Trail to Hell”. Who knew?
