Jeremy Langland’s ‘THE R.I.P MAN’ (2025) – Movie Review

The R.I.P Man is a wild and creepy ride, at first, but at the end of the day I am pretty neutral on this film. I can see good and bad points to this film; both are clear.

Let’s get into the review and I’ll explain.

Synopsis

A serial killer with a rare oral condition begins to target young adults and removes a single tooth from each victim. Can a family’s kept secret unfold the truth and help prevent the murders from continuing?

Jeremy Langland directed the film. It stars Owen Llewelyn and Jasmine Kheen.

The Rundown

The R.I.P Man was a pretty unusual story, however, it is easy to put together. Although the tone doesn’t scream out at me, I will admit the great amount of dialogue holds a solid origin story. There were some pretty great parts; the film did have a villain that was utterly terrifying. This film made me run up the stairs so that a guy with a tooth disorder couldn’t catch me. I wish there were more scenes with the terrifying character. I left the film feeling kind of incomplete, waiting for more from this ghoulish figure.

The R.I.P Man could have done so much more. I feel like the movie was about explaining the monster, and it didn’t add up to what I expected. Thats the one major letdown for me. I really don’t need a complicated story laid out in front of me that needs to explain the premise. It sounds harsh, but it’s a fair opinion. I still feel as if I was robbed of some brutality, not gore, just creativity. I found the few kill scenes to be a lot of fun to watch. The film still makes you turn the lights on all night and sleep in your living room. However, the lack of kill scenes makes way for a long, drawn-out story. This is all I can say that actually bothered me just a bit.

An Honest Opinion Never Hurts

I won’t lie and say I wasn’t interested, but my ADHD mind needs something that makes me want to pay attention. Sometimes I can’t get past the small things. The truth is, The R.I.P. Man is an insanely creepy story, from the background to the villain, and the choice of makeup. I wish I could have fully enjoyed this film; behind the simple things I pick apart are mostly good things. I have my preferred taste, but I am always willing to give something a try.

To me, the film has some major points to notice. During the last 20 minutes, we get the bonkers scenes. I kind of wish this trend would die out. It started way before this film was released. but is now overdone and feels almost cheap in a way. I swing towards enjoyment; it would definitely take me a few watches to figure out what I might have missed.

In The End

I didn’t come here to complain. As a matter of fact, I have a lot of respect for the cast and crew. Though some parts really irritated me, it’s worth me taking the extra time to look past what doesn’t make sense. The R.I.P. Man is a reason I give fair reviews. I usually enjoy most films, but I qualify that by saying a lot of them I wouldn’t watch again. I am glad that filmmakers are still getting creative with FX, and that makes it worth every minute.

Not everything needs to be a blockbuster, and I like it that way.

About Craig Lucas

I hail from rural PA where there isn't much to do except fixate on something. Horror was, and still is my fixation. I have 35 years of horror experience under my belt, I love the horror community and it loves me.
