There are a lot of people working in the indie horror film world these days, and one of the most talented ones is Amanda Megan. Amanda has done it all when it comes to the business, such as acting, directing, writing, and modeling, and she excels at all of them. Her film Anna Key that she directed and co-wrote with Matthew Lee Anderson (Heavy Duty Man, Serious Profession) has been a huge hit at recent film festivals and conventions and has won a number of awards as a result. She has a lot of things going on when it comes to her career, but I was lucky enough to sit down and speak with her recently about her movies, her modeling career, and just life in general.
PopHorror: When did you first get into filmmaking? What was your first project?
Amanda Megan: My first project was called Samhain. It was around 2018. A friend of mine from high school – Scotty McCoy- reached out to me and asked if I’d be interested in helping out. It was originally going to be a web series and we scrapped that and turned it into a feature instead.
PopHorror: You’ve done a little bit of everything such as acting, writing, directing, and modeling. Which do you prefer and why?
Amanda Megan: I love each one for different reasons. I think doing the modeling, specifically the bloody boudoir is my favorite because it combines all my favorite things – blood, art, and self love.
PopHorror: What work of your own are you the proudest of and why?
Amanda Megan: Anna Key is obviously the thing I’m most proud about at the moment. We have her in the festival circuit now and we’ve won quite a few awards for it so far. Anna was my first feature that I had the privilege of directing and it was definitely an adventure.
I’m also about to produce my first project under my own production company Dancing Demons Media Group and I am SO EXCITED for that.
PopHorror: What is your favorite movie of all time?
Amanda Megan: My Favorite movie of all time is What Dreams May Come, starring Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding Jr. It’s so well done. I love the plot and the symbolism, and the acting is on point. My favorite horror film is Martyrs.
PopHorror: What has been your favorite project that you have worked on so far and why?
Amanda Megan: Legend of Crickfoot has been my favorite so far. It was different of a concept and very laid back. Everyone was given a generic prompt to create a skit and we were able to get our own trams together and really let out creative minds flow. Most fun I have had making a movie in a while.
PopHorror: What is your dream role or project?
Amanda Megan: Hmmm. I want to play a villain. I love dynamic, challenging characters. I love getting to be someone outside of my norm. I would also love to be something ridiculous…. Like a mermaid. Or maybe I just want an excuse to go to the beach!
PopHorror: What would you say is the scariest movie ever made?
Amanda Megan: Oh, that’s a tough one. Uhm…. Well Apocalypse Now scared the shit out of me so I’m going to go with that. I was traumatized when I watched that as a child.
PopHorror: Do you have any phobias or is there anything that just creeps you out in general?
Amanda Megan: An asteroid hurting towards earth freaks me out. Because it’s plausible and there’s nothing we can do about that. I’m not going to tell you the rest of my phobias- that’s a secret lol!
PopHorror: Who would you like to work with in the future?
Amanda Megan: Jessa Flux, Nelson Helfin, Dave Kerr, Beatrice Boepple, Wesley Spangler… there’s so many people. Basically, everyone in the indie scene lol!
PopHorror: What projects are you currently working on that you would like to talk about?
Amanda Megan: Sabilla Six, Vicious Valentine, Head on the Writers Block, Spirit Board, and Black Sheep to name a few. Definitely keep an eye out for those!
PopHorror: How can people get in contact with you (such as Facebook, Instagram, etc)?
Amanda Megan: Facebook is the easiest way to get in touch with me – Amanda Megan. I am also on Instagram @missmandirose1. You can also reach me via email at [email protected]
Special thanks to Amanda for taking the time to speak with me today!
