PopHorror Let's Get Scared
If you know me, then you know I fucking love teen slashers, especially those from the 90s. One of my favorite slice-and-dice horror flicks that falls into this is the 1997 gem, I Know What You Did Last Summer. Based off a 1973 Lois Duncan novel of the same name, the film version is cheesy goodness that I’m actually watching right now as I type this up (like the new series—which is definitely NOT cheesy—the movie is also on Amazon Prime). For the release of the new show based on both the book and movie, I chatted with the stars of the Amazon Prime production, Ezekiel Goodman and Ashley Moore, about shooting in Hawaii and their favorite part of filming.
PopHorror: What intrigued you about the role and made you want to be a part of the show?
Ashley Moore: Well, I was a huge fan of the movies growing up, so when I was able to audition for this, it was like a dream. I was a huge fan, like I said, and my character was really exciting to play. There were so many layers to her that you’ll see throughout the series. I was very excited to take on this role.
Ezekiel Goodman: I’ll echo that. The characters were all so multi-layered. I think a lot of the theme of the show is figuring out who you are, and that’s a really exciting project to take on as an actor. And I had great castmates. It was a really exciting time.
PopHorror: I love hearing that you are a fan of the original. After reading the script, was there anything that you were adamant about bringing to your character?
Ezekiel Goodman: That’s a good question. I know for me, I wanted to make sure that I didn’t play into any type of stereotype or archetype of who my character is. I think the series is about pushing against other people’s perspectives of who you are. The last thing I would want to do is play a trope.
Ashley Moore: Yeah, or just a drug dealer.
Ezekiel Goodman: Or like the nerdy, best friend guy.
PopHorror: Were you horror fans before making the show?
Ezekiel Goodman: Yeah!
Ashley Moore: Definitely.
PopHorror: It looks like it was a ton of fun to make, because it’s a ton of fun to watch. What was your favorite part of filming?
Ezekiel Goodman: Working with Ashley Moore.
Ashley Moore: Ezekiel, wow. Wow.
Ezekiel Goodman: We actually had a lot of fun scenes together. For me, working with the cast and the whole creative team. The whole experience was just really good.
Ashley Moore: Yeah, yeah.
PopHorror: Plus, working in Hawaii!
Ashley Moore: It was a dream location.
PopHorror: I would take it just to spend that much time in Hawaii.
Ashley Moore: The location was just incredible.
