PopHorror Let's Get Scared
I know a lot of people are huge fans of the Insidious series. Although I enjoy them, I will say that I much prefer The Conjuring franchise. Both deliver intense performances with spooky supernatural situations. I wasn’t a huge fan of the third Insidious installment, but that didn’t stop me from watching Insidious: The Last Key.
So did it live up to its hype? Find out below!
The recent installment was directed by Adam Robitel with a screenplay written by Leigh Whannell. The cast includes Lin Shaye, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson, Caitlin Gerard, Spencer Locke, Josh Stewart, and more.
Official Synopsis for Insidious: The Last Key:
Parapsychologist Dr. Elise Rainier (Shaye) faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet – in her own family home.
Well, I’m delighted to say that I actually enjoyed this one quite a bit. It didn’t feel drawn out and I love a good backstory. I especially enjoyed seeing how Dr. Elise Rainier came to be who she is. It worked perfectly as a wrap-up and allowed fans to get acquainted with her a bit more. It was also a bit heart-breaking. The first scene ripped my heart out and viciously stopped on it. I wanted to reach out and hug her, but alas I couldn’t. It was creepy, intense, and shocking.

Lin Shaye’s character throughout the Insidious franchise is one badass lady. She’s brave, strong, and ruthless. As I mentioned above, I loved seeing her backstory. You could feel her pain and how miserably lonely she must have been for years. A true outcast because of a gift she didn’t ask for her. As always though, she breaks through that pain and saves the day delivering a heartfelt and brilliant performance.
Josh Stewart as always gives a winning performance as well. He was downright disturbing and made my blood boil. The character you love to hate.
I also really enjoyed the insidious monster in this one. She was fucking creepy and gave me the heebie-jeebies. Truly something of a nightmare and makes you wonder if there are really evil spirits out there… lurking in the dark. The special effects and makeup definitely helped create an insanely demonic creature and creepy atmosphere.

All of them deliver goodies, but I personally loved “Becoming Elise.” Anything that highlights Lin Shaye and her character is a plus to me. She’s truly evolved as a person and goes further into the darkness than she ever has before.
Final Thoughts on Insidious: The Last Key:
I was thoroughly impressed by the final chapter in the Insidious franchise. I loved the spotlight on Lin Shaye’s character and I think she stands strong as one of the most badass women in horror films ever.
