Human Compost’s ‘Exhumations Of Death And Horror’ (2018) Music Review

Bursting out from the gore-crusted seams of Toronto comes the pulsating feast of death/gore/grind, Human Compost, who have just released a compilation on Horror Pain Gore Death Productions titled Exhumations Of Death And Horror featuring all of the band’s EP material dating back to 2013. Included are the EPs Degradation Of A Virgin Corpse EP, The Cold Flesh EP, Reduced To Human Sludge EP and their 2015 promo release. Basically, you get everything the band has released, minus their full length 2016 album, From The Grave They Crawl. A couple of the members were also in the band Brain Spasm, who released a killer EP titled Toxic Monstrosities which I reviewed on another site awhile back.

Exhumations of Death And Horror is a an amazing slab of some of the finest death/grind with a very prevalent goregrind style also in the mix. Human Compost have a thick and crushing sound. The production on this collection is impressive. It’s very sludgy, heavy and brutal in delivery and reminds me of stuff like General Surgery, Exhumed and the most obvious gore greats Carcass circa their Symphonies Of Sickness days. Don’t get me wrong, you can hear the influences, but Human Compost dis a great job with creating their own style and sound here, with uncompromising blasts followed by some very mid-paced chugging along tracks all laced with a very solid groove, so everything melds nicely without a lot of repetition.

Exhumations Of Horror and Death is a great introduction to the band, with just about everything they’ve made all in one release, so you get a bunch of great material. There’s a total of 23 songs clocking in at 1:05:59. There’s plenty of material including some cool covers by GG Allin, Mayhem, Autopsy, Possessed and the track “Breakfast At The Manchester Morgue” by Impetigo, which features a couple of members of the cool horror/grind band Cropsy Maniac. There’s also some great song titles here, including “Cauterize Her Cunt,” “Vaginal Exsanguination,” “Pre-Teen Sex Machine” and “Pre-Natal Punching,” just to show off the very politically correct mindset the band has adopted.

I urge you to pick up Exhumations Of Death And Horror. You’ll be in for a major treat with this band’s superior death/horror/gore/grind. Check out Human Compost’s material on Bandcamp, Spotify or go to to their website to pick up a physical copy and check out the rest of the label’s incredible roster.
