David Teixeira’s film, Girls Night, is an award winning short horror film that is not only creepy but rather unsettling, to say the least. PopHorror had an opportunity to check the film out, and you can read our full review here. So when I heard about the sequel, aptly titled Girls Night 2, you know I had to give it a watch. After watching the first film, I was intrigued to see what the second one would bring, and if it held up to the creep factor so prevalent in the first one. Did it? Read on to find out!
Synopsis:
One year after the deadly events of last year’s Halloween, Jess (Marina de Sousa) keeps having the same nightmare over and over where she finds herself helpless in front of a masked killer. Her friend, Pierre (Vincent Conty), invites her to spend some time with him at his house and decides to throw a cozy and innocent pajama party to try to keep her mind occupied. While her nightmares seem to be getting even more intense by the minute, Jess can’t shake the idea that the killer may be back to pay her a visit.
Girls Night 2 brings a truckload of creepiness, just like the first one, hands down. It is unsettling, and it kept me thinking and guessing. For me, that is the best part about slasher films. I love not knowing where the killer is and trying to figure out when he/she is going to make their move. The build up in this film left a knot in my stomach. It actually made me uncomfortable. It still left a lot of unanswered questions, much like the first one, but that isn’t always a bad thing. I really enjoy smart horror films and both Girls Night and Girls Night 2 are smart horror films. The story and performances are solid. The slasher is spine-chilling, which we don’t always get. This film is worth a watch, and if you have a chance to see it, make sure you do! As always, keep the channel tuned to PopHorror for all of your pop culture and horror news, reviews and interviews.
