Synopsis

When their son Matt (Kyle Gallner) receives a diagnosis of cancer, Sara (Virginia Madsen) and Peter (Martin Donovan) Campbell move to Connecticut to be closer to his doctors. At first all is well, but then Matt becomes increasingly disturbed by what appears to be paranormal activity. Sara turns to a priest for help, and the ghosts are seemingly banished, but Matt’s condition takes a sudden and unexplained turn for the worse, and the lives of Sara and the rest of her family are endangered.

The Haunting in Connecticut (2009) was directed by Peter Cornwell (Mercy 2014). The movie was written by Tim Metcalfe and Adam Simon. It stars Virginia Madsen (Candyman 1992), Kyle Gallner (Smile 2022), Amanda Crew (Freaks 2018), Martin Donovan (Come to Daddy 2019), and Elias Koteas (The Prophecy 1995).

Is the The Haunting in Connecticut part of the The Conjuring Universe? Well the film was loosely based upon experiences of the Shedecker family. These events of this family were investigated by the paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren. These two investigators are the basis for The Conjuring franchise, hence the connection.

A Cast With Horror History

Many of the actors in The Haunting in Connecticut (2009) are no stranger to the horror genre. We all know Virginia Madsen from Candyman (1992), but she previously was in The Prophecy (1995) with Elias Koteas too. Let’s not forget Kyle Gallner and his contribution to the horror genre with films like Jennifer’s Body (2009), A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010), Scream 5 (2022), and Smile (2022). Finally, Amanda Crew has quite a few horror credits as well like Freaks (2018), Tone Deaf (2019), There’s Something Wrong with the Children (2023), and Final Destination 3 (2006).

Was the movie filmed in Connecticut? Nope. It was actually shot on location in Teulon and Winnipeg, Canada. The Snedecker house the movie is based on is real, though, and is located at 208 Meriden Avenue, Southington, CT 06489.

Shake Your Money Maker

The Haunting In Connecticut was produced with a budget of about $10,000,000. Based on that modest number, it was a box office success, taking in more than $77,000,000 worldwide. That was enough to justify a sequel, The Haunting In Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia in 2013.
