Fantastic Fest 2019 Short Review: ‘3 Days’ of Horrifying Emptiness

If you know me, you know I’m a huge fan of shorts. There’s something magical about them and I typically favor them over other things but I’m also critical about them as well. I was excited to watch 3 Days, which is part of the Short Fuse 2019 Program for Fantastic Fest 2019.

The short was directed and written by Julie Sharbutt who also stars in the film alongside Zoey Martinson and Liz Wisan.

Synopsis for 3 Days

Three women keep a grip on each other’s nerves as encroaching sounds outside their tent inflame their fearful anxieties and eventually bring to light a dreadful revelation.

Although this short has a runtime of fewer than 12 minutes, it was able to really impact me emotionally and sent shivers down my spine. It was incredible and effective storytelling with rivetting performances that sucked me and left me breathless.

It starts out innocent enough. Three friends at a remote getaway, giving each other crap. However, it quickly turns dark and dread lingers over everything. You can feel something bad is about to happen so much so that you can taste it.

The performances were brilliant by all parties. Each character was unique and they all had great chemistry together. When things start to get dense, they played off each other’s emotions beautifully, making your heart race.

Final Thoughts

3 Days is a powerful short that will shake you to your core. Definitely one of my favorites from Fantasia Fest 2017 and I hope others get a chance to take it out. I know it’s currently doing a festival run, so be sure to keep your eyes open for it.
