Hanging Ghoul/Ghost
What I used: a plastic skull, cheese cloth, a small paint brush, water and glue, craft wire.
Cheese cloth is your best friend when it comes to Halloween decorations. It has this beautifully dreary effect when it blows in the wind. I found this plastic skull at the dollar store. It didn’t have much detail, so I painted the eye sockets to give it more depth. For your skull, puncture two holes on the top about an inch apart, and then take a fairly long piece of craft wire and loop it through the holes. In a bowl, mix glue with a small amount of water – just enough to dilute the glue and make it more manageable.
Unravel the cheese cloth and drape it over the top of your skull. Make sure it’s the length you want and then cut. The cheese cloth might be folded – make sure to check and unfold before continuing. For the first layer, cover the front and back of the skull. It will drape over and expose the sides where the ears would normally be. Apply some of the glue mixture to the top of the skull and the face. Get it in all of the small crevices. Continue to layer cheese cloth across skull, avoiding the face. Brush the glue on the top to about the location of where the ears start.
Once you finished and like the bulk of your layers, you’ll want to cut the bottom of your cheese cloth upwards. This will give a tattered and torn look to your ghoul/ghost. Take some of the glue and apply to the edges, twist the tips to give a more pointed look. Twist and secure your craft wire and hang. When it blows in the wind, it has this weightless effect and looks really awesome under lights.
