Diphenylchloroarsine’s Post Apocalyptic Human Annihilation (2017) Album Review

Three man wrecking crew Diphenylchloroarsine from Norway/Czech Republic are back with their first full length following up after their EP, The 6 Level Purge, in 2015. They take their name from a deadly organoarsenic chemical compound and play a style self-described as “biochemical sludge slam.” The newest album, Post Apocalyptic Human Annihilation, is a devastatingly down tuned, heavy release filled with these crazy deep and thunderous bass drops and programmed drums that sound fantastic, especially the sound of the snare. I was unaware that the band had programmed drums until I read about it. This was a huge shock because, as I was listening, I was certain it was a person behind the drum kit, beating them mercilessly.

The theme of Post Apocalyptic Human Annihilation is self explanatory from the title. We get 10 tracks which encompass an overall end of the world or aftermath of the world feel as the earth has been destroyed by some kind of devastation, whether it be nuclear or some other form of extinction brought on by the human race. Diphenylchloroarsine have made a heavy record here. It’s bottom heavy and sludgy and pulsates with unadulterated brutality. Post Apocalyptic Human Annihilation oozes uncontrollably with a feeling of absolute destruction.

With song titles such as “Scavenging The Putrid Remains,” “Eradication of Human Pestilence,” Survival Of The Coldest” and “Ravenous Hunger,” you can see a theme forming. The vocals are deep and infested gurgles putting most similar bands to shame. Even Mortician should take note here. The guitars are fuzzy, sonic torment sounding diatribes that flow with the bass and drumming. All come together as a cohesive unit of sludge heavy slam at its finest.

My only complaint is the lack of song distinction. This seems to be a common hurdle for similar bands. They have their style, but its cool to hear them switch up tempos and do some funky stuff to distinguish particular tracks. There are plenty of samples in each song that. once again, follow that apocalyptic wasteland theme, at least.

If you are looking for some heavy uncompromising material, Post Apocalyptic Human Annihilation is one of the heaviest you’ll come across. It is absolutely embodies every concept of down tuned brutality. You can purchase Post Apocalyptic Human Annihilation from Rotten Music here.
