We are just a little over halfway to Christmas time. I think that calls for a little Christmas in July celebration, don’t you? How do we go about doing so in this dead heat of summer? Simple! We are going to give some love to one of PopHorror’s favorite indie horror directors, Carles Torrens (Pet), and one of the very first films that he wrote and directed, which just happens to be a holiday horror short called Coming to Town!
Official Synopsis:
JoBeth is an 11-year-old girl who gets bullied at school. Desperate for help, she writes a letter to Santa Claus asking for revenge instead of toys and candy. Her wishes come true when, on Christmas Eve, her enemies get a visit from an avenging, blood-thirsty Santa Claus and a couple of deranged, sadistic elves. By employing heavy artillery and extreme violence, JoBeth’s bullies get their punishment and the Christmas spirit is restored.
What I loved so much about Coming to Town is this cool little world that Torrens has created. It’s not just your typical Santa Claus story line. This time, his name is Klaus (Howard Ferguson-Woitzman: Delaney 2008) and he gets a little help from Baldfred the Elf (Mark Parr: Zombie Night 2013) and a fun creature named Alpinolo (Mikey Post: Rest Stop 2006). The rest of the cast and crew really help bring this sadistic Christmas revenge story to life with Delaney Manning (Delaney 2008) as JoBeth and Daeg Faerch (Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2007) as Allister Romer.
The cinematography is beyond on point. Plus Coming to Town even has a fun little twist in it, which I would expect nothing less from Carles Torrens.
Now, I don’t want to give too much away because Coming to Town is one that you are going to have to see on your own. It is so unique and twisted. Plus trust me, you’ll want to see what’s under Alpinolo’s mask! If you don’t want to take my word for it, see for yourself by watching it here. We hope you enjoy this special Christmas in July article and many thanks to Carles Torrens for creating such an awesome holiday horror short!
