Career Retrospective: Walton Goggins Before He Was The Ghoul in ‘FALLOUT’ (2024)

Walton Goggins is getting massive amounts of attention for his latest role as Cooper Howard, aka The Ghoul, in the new Fallout television series. He appears to be inching out Pedro Pascal on social media as the new daddy for the apocalypse. While it is wonderful seeing this talent finally getting the attention he deserves, he has been working in the industry for a long time. EARLY YEARS

Walton Goggins has gone unnoticed in the background of pop culture since the late 1980s in both television and movies.  He made appearances in television episodes of In the Heat of the Night (1989), Beverly Hills, 90210 (1992), Renegade (1993), Jag (1995), and NYPD Blue (1998). There were small appearances on the big screen as well in movies like Mr. Saturday Night (1992) and Forever Young (1992).

HORROR HISTORY

He is no stranger to the horror genre either. His acting credits include Joy Ride (2001), House of 1000 Corpses (2003), Predators (2010), and Straw Dogs (2011). Take a moment to revisit these scary movies and see if you can recognize him.

FIVE FAVORITE ROLES

5: Sons of Anarchy (2012): Goggins makes his debut on this television series during the fifth season in the episode, “Orca Shrugged.” He plays the transgender prostitute, Venus Van Dam. His character became quite the ally to SAMCRO and became a fan favorite.

4. The Unicorn (2019): Walton Goggins starred in this dramatic sitcom as Wade. This character is a widower with two daughters trying to re-enter the dating scene with the help of his close friends. The show pulled at your heart strings one moment but had you laughing the next. He showed great range as an actor in this role.

3. Vice Principals (2016): Goggins demonstrated his ability to hold his own against his costar, Danny McBride, in this dark comedy series. He plays Lee Russell who is battling to get the role of principal at North Jackson High School. The over-the-top persona that he creates with this character is excellent and comedic timing is brilliant.

2. The Righteous Gemstones (2019): This dark comedy reunited Walton Goggins with Danny McBride. This time he plays the manipulative brother-in-law and uncle, Baby Billy Freeman. This character is constantly trying to manipulate and steal the spotlight from his famous dysfunctional televangelists family. The performance as Baby Billy cements his ability to excel in comedic roles.

1. Justified (2010): This was a neo-Western crime drama television series.  Goggins plays Boyd Crowder who is a bank robber that has a love affair with pyrotechnics. Initially, this role was only supposed to be in one episode, but his performance was so well liked by test audiences, his character was added prominently to the show.
