Breaking the Rules: Brandon Hardstock’s ‘HOUSE AT THE EDGE OF THE WOODS’ (2026) – Review

When I first started watching it, it seemed a little basic, the usual setting, the usual story. Something clicked in my head.  There was a background noise that sounded like something and creeped me out. I can relate to the noise in Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things. The film kicked me right in the teeth almost right away. The House at the Edge of the Woods honestly might keep you up all night, waiting in a cabin. It’s basic, but it was well worth it.

Let’s get into the review.

Synopsis

A grieving man moves into the home of his missing father. After experiencing anomalies on his property, he hires a documentary crew to uncover the truth of what’s really happening at The House at the Edge of the Woods

The Rundown

The movie starts off really basic and run-of-the-mill. However, the movie added some tones and whistles of thinking that the movie is freezing on you. House At the End of the Woods slowly changed; the progression had my attention. The movie sucks you into a whole new world, creeping and crawling through the trees. It starts to shift into an uncomfortable feeling while they search the woods. The background noise was distant enough to terrify you. It worked for me; Now I could follow along with no issue. What I got was not what I expected; it was ten times better.

The setting is just as creepy as the background. However, it didn’t reach me for a while. It’s the basic routine, the house they rented. The owner of the home actually scared me. Maybe I would just give an acknowledgment, maybe I would be the first one running. The movie is like The Blair Witch Project on a hyperactive running speed. And more watchable.

To me, this movie speaks volumes: a pretty good movie that I will watch again that won me over pretty quickly. As much as I love found footage movies, this was just what I needed to be fully creeped out. It wasn’t the kills, it wasn’t the story; the part that messed me up the most was that laughter through the trees above. That laugh will haunt me forever.

In The End

In the end, I would easily suggest this to anyone who loves found footage; you just may enjoy it as much as I did. I suggest this to everybody who likes something a little basic, but watch the movie from start to finish. You may sleep wth the light on, or stay inside while remembering all the good times without trying to communicate with the dead. That is one moment forever embedded in my mind. Come in with an open mind, not expecting to dislike it because of what you read. You have your own taste and style, use it wisely. I won’t repeat myself, just go check it out.

The House at the Edge of the Woods sold me with time. What seems real doesn’t mean it’s true; it’s all one big mind game, and I love it.
