Last year, I discovered the multifaceted world of Dustin Wayde Mills’ films when I reviewed his films, The Hornet’s Sting and the Hell it Caused (2014 – read my review here) and The Hornet’s Disciple and the Scars She Left (2018 – read my review here). I have been a fan of his work ever since. Recently, I had the chance to check out his latest project, Slaughterhouse Slumber Party, a film I have been looking forward to since the Kickstarter was launched. Read on for my thoughts on this film.

Slaughterhouse Slumber Party is the latest film from writer/director Dustin Wayde Mills (Kill That Bitch 2014). The film stars Ariel Jarchow (Just Your Average Halloween Party 2016), Marcus Koch (Circus of the Dead 2014 – read our review here), Jason Crowe (Volumes of Blood 2015 – read our review here), Lucian Cline (Harvest Lake 2016), Haley Jay Madison (CarousHell 2016 – read our review here), Kayla Elizabeth (Ouija: Blood Ritual 2017), Plank Face’s Alyss Winkler (read our interview with her here), Erin R. Ryan (Babysitter Massacre 2013), Melissa Sue Zahs (Another Average Halloween 2017), Reagan Wright (The Hornet’s Disciple And The Scars She Left 2018), Roni Jonah (Space Babes From Outer Space 2017 – read our review here) J. Ania Lupa (The Hornet’s Disciple And The Scars She Left 2018), and introducing Eve Moreau.
What started as the debauched annual slumber party for a tight knit group of gal pals becomes a fight for their lives when supernatural evil threatens to destroy the world–and even worse, ruin the one night of the year the ladies get to have a nude pillow fight. Trapped by magic, surrounded by evil, and very underdressed, will they survive the night? Or will this slumber party become a slaughterhouse? Slaughterhouse Slumber Party is the unholy hybrid of Hard To Die, Evil Dead II, and Parks & Recreation, the world never knew it needed.
If I had to sum up Slaughterhouse Slumber Party in one sentence it would be this: An Evil Dead-inspired, nudity-filled horror comedy chock full of witty dialogue and body humor. Needless to say, it was right up my alley. As a matter of fact, this might be my favorite Dustin Mills film I’ve seen so far. It is absolutely fucking nuts. Just some of the things you will see include: a face melted off with piss, exploding breasts, ghost shark attacks, and demon fighting with explosive diarrhea.
I LOVE the cast in Slaughterhouse Slumber Party. It’s my favorite ensemble in an indie horror film in recent memory. Everyone is genuinely funny and fully embodies their characters. It was nice seeing Alyss Winkler get to do more comedy (she even got to do a Russian accent). Roni Jonah has become a favorite of mine after the few film roles of hers that I have seen, and that streak continues here. Her character, Langley, is a take charge badass. It’s just a shame she doesn’t have a ton more screen time. Reagan Wright, who plays Blanche, is responsible for one of the biggest laugh out loud moments in the film with a line about loving it when dudes pee on her.
Two actresses I haven’t seen before, Melissa Sue Zahs and Eve Moreau, both do wonderful jobs, and I look forward to seeing them in future projects. J. Ania Lupa is creepy as hell as the villainous Gretchen, while also delivering Freddy Krueger-esqe one liners. The main threesome of Kayla Elizabeth, Erin R. Ryan and Haley Madison as Carol Anne, Lennon and Courtney are amazing together. They have the chemistry of women who have been friends forever, and that makes them easy to root for. Honestly, I loved all the characters and their wonderful interactions together. I didn’t want any of them to die, so I felt bad for laughing at their hilarious demises. The ending is amazing, and I definitely yelled, “Fuck, yeah!” when I saw it.
I should also mention that Slaughterhouse Slumber Party is preceded by a fake trailer for a film starring a kick-ass, fully nude super heroine (Ariel Jarchow) known as Rocket von Ribcage. I need a Rocket film. Please Dustin… I’m begging you.
Final Thoughts
Slaughterhouse Slumber Party features an abundance of blood and a bevy of beautiful, fully nude indie actresses. The film merges its witty dialogue with likable characters and mass amounts of body humor to make one of the most fun and funniest indie horror comedies I have ever seen, and is my favorite indie film of the year so far. Highly recommended.
