Amazon Original Movie: ‘The Lie’ (2020) Movie Review

Welcome to Blumhouse has brought four new Amazon original movies for your viewing pleasure this spooky season. One of them is chilling crime horror, The Lie.

The Lie

This film was directed by Veena Sud with a great cast starring Peter Sarsgaard (Night Moves 2014), Mireille Enos, and Joey King (Fargo TV series).

Synopsis for The Lie

A father and daughter are on their way to dance camp when they spot the girl’s best friend on the side of the road. When they stop to offer the friend a ride, their good intentions soon result in terrible consequences.

When it comes to a thrilling and captivating experience, The Lie excels in all aspects. The film kept had my pulse racing and my anxiety rising throughout its runtime. It was a crazy story with phenomenal performances and a holy shit ending.

It comes as no surprise that Joey King’s performance was brilliant. So much so that I couldn’t stand her character at all. Joey makes playing a “victim” an art form and although brilliant… it will drive you mad at how convincing she is. Peter Sarsgaard and Mireille Enos delivered emotionally-powered, award-winning performances that shook me to my core. I could feel their pain, and their chemistry and connection felt raw and brutally conflicted. Together, they show how far some parents will go to protect their children.

I was left at the edge of my seat the whole time, but that ending was insane! Just when you think things couldn’t get any worse, it does. It will make your blood boil!

Final Thoughts

I love a good thriller and I love being surprised and this film blew me away. I highly recommend checking out The Lie which is now streaming on Amazon Prime.
