I don’t even know if I will find enough words. Some people in your life have influence. Even if you were not a fan of Ozzy, you definitely knew his name. That’s what made Ozzy so special; he was nomadic with music even as a solo artist. If you ask me personally, I love Back Sabbath, but I was always more fond of Ozzy’s solo work. It is probably because, as a kid, my family were all Ozzy fans before Black Sabbath—both the band and the solo artist.

In The Beginning
Even at the age of five, I knew I was an Ozzy fan. As a kid, he finally came to our town, but even though I begged, I didn’t get to go along with my aunts to see the legend live. I was upset for days over the situation. I didn’t talk to anyone in my family; they just let me pout. Eventually, I got my way, though it was 15 years later, and I was there to witness this moment with the people I love. It was a frozen moment in time for me that I visited quite often. Some remember where they were when John Lennon was killed. People were absolutely shocked and saddened. You never know what the next moment will be the end. I will always remember when I learned that one of my heroes had fallen.
Influence
Not too many could equally walk in Ozzy’s shoes. He was always a hair above the rest because he was so influential. He wrote heavy metal ballads before bands like Poison. Ozzy was held to a higher standard by everyone because he earned it. It wasn’t just his antics that always found him in the headlines. There was also the fact that Ozzy never stopped. Ozzy was the king of comebacks. He could be gone for 10 years, and his comeback album would sell out to all ages. Ozzy knew how to work an audience in front of hundreds of thousands of people. What Ozzy did, he did the best.

The Last Stand
We all watched as he gave his last effort to rock and roll. Strapped to a chair, and after begging to be able to stand one more time in front of the people who loved him for decades. Ozzy knew his time was up, so he left us with the best gift he could. We all watched, some of us in tears (including me), as he grabbed that mic for the last time. He left us with memories, a lot of memories about growing up, because Ozzy was there to watch all of us age.

Legends Live On
Ozzy, the person, was a bit different at first. He was always out to do something shocking, competing with the likes of Alice Cooper or even King Diamond. Bands like Slipknot or Metallica; everyone knew who the king was. The unfortunate part is that no artist in the current heavy metal music genre is alive to compete with that level of love both from and for their fans. We didn’t lose a musician. We lost a legendary man who faced a whole to of demons in his life. Through some actions, he learned a lesson on being less aggressive and wild. Ozzy left us with bands with pig squeals and 10-minute breakdowns, and GHOST, who is our only hope. I know that’s an unpopular opinion, but know one else has reached Ozzy’s level of influence.
We didn’t lose a musician; we lost the real king of rock and roll.
