A Haunting Discovery: Another Review of ‘Demon House’ (2018)

In this second look at the paranormal documentary, Demon House (you can read the first review here), we follow Zak Bagans, the infamous and charming lead investigator of the TV show, Ghost Adventures. Curious after hearing of a case of possession in a small Indiana home, Zak leads his fellow investigators to the houze. What they find is a series of incomprehensible devastation and mental anguish from its past residents.

Zak Bagans in the basement of the infamous Demon House

The film itself isn’t so much scary as it is mind boggling. With witnesses to the case stating absolutely bizarre and preternatural incidents, Zak and his crew fall into a spiral of what is assumed to be one of the most haunting cases of the paranormal the world has seen. Studying and investigating the paranormal is what they do, but they got more than they bargained for with the Demon House as strange occurrences cause strife to their personal lives and mental status.

This Indiana case sparked controversy, with many claiming that it was all power of suggestion and over exaggerated cases of mental illness. Throughout the film, the investigators come face to face with what dealing with a evil entity can do to your body and mind, turning it into a mind boggling case of faith versus reality.

The haunted, horned being that constantly appears in Zak’s nightmares during and following the Demon House incident.

Following Zak throughout his investigation, we find out many different aspects of this case. Between Zak’s scary and horrifying confrontation with a large, horned entity, and his friend’s descent into depression and madness when he himself comes face to face with it, this movie took me on a journey throughout the paranormal world. Like many others, it made me question the reality in which we live. Demon House is a great film that is definitely for all fans of the paranormal, as well as fans of the television series Ghost Adventures. It is a haunting discovery for the paranormal world and made me have more questions than answers. Unfortunately for paranormal fans who would love to witness the demon infestation for themselves, the home was demolished, and only a few small elements of what was once a home are left. The surviving pieces are now housed in Zak’s collection at The Haunted Museum in Las Vegas.

The last remaining elements of the Demon House in Gary Indiana.

This movie was an interesting descent into the world of pseudo science that not many get to see. Although the home doesn’t exist anymore, for all those people who suffered through the ordeals, the horror of what happened to them will never go away.
