Check out our interview with Caroline Coleman, a talented new actress that just had her first starring in role in a feature film called, Fishbowl (read my review – HERE). Learn about why she became an actress, her character in this film, favorite scenes, and more.
PopHorror – Thanks for talking with me, Caroline. What inspired you to become an actress?
Caroline Coleman – Thank you! I started performing in theater when I was nine. Each production motivated me to keep performing because I loved being on stage.
PopHorror – That’s awesome. Was Fishbowl your first acting role? How did this role come about for you?
Caroline Coleman – Fishbowl was my first role in a feature film. Growing up, I performed in regional productions around D.C, but had little experience on camera. I auditioned for the role in 2016, and landed the role of Jessa.
PopHorror – I loved the film and your character. Can you tell us more about your character?
Caroline Coleman – Jessa is the youngest of the Simon sisters, and mute throughout the film. She is aware of the tension between the community and her father, and it takes an emotional toll on her. While she is mute, she shows flashes of an inner strength, and can be sassy!
PopHorror – Yes! Could you relate to her at all or any of her experiences as a young woman?
Caroline Coleman – I think Jessa is struggling to find her identity under immense social pressure. I filmed this while I was in high school, and like any high school student, I also felt that social pressure. She wants to feel normal when she is struggling to fit in, and her life seems to be falling apart.
PopHorror – Yep, super relatable. Did you have any favorite scenes or scenes that you found hard to do?
Caroline Coleman – One of my favorite scenes was the fight between Jessa and Stephanie. I would consider myself a rule follower, and not one to engage in physical confrontation. Playing a scene that is unlike myself was a blast.
PopHorror – That’s great. Are you happy with the overall outcome of this film?
Caroline Coleman – Yes! Everyone worked incredibly hard on this film, and it is fulfilling to see the final product.
PopHorror – What type of roles would you like to do in the future? Are there any directors or actors/actresses you’d love to work with?
Caroline Coleman – Any strong female character is a role I would like to play. I am inspired by the work of Greta Gerwig, and would be thrilled to work under her direction.
PopHorror – I hope you get to! Any other upcoming projects you’d like to talk about?
Caroline Coleman – I am pursuing a BFA in Acting at NYU, and projects I have been engaged in are through online platforms. Acting during the pandemic has created new ways to perform.
PopHorror – Congratulations. I look forward to all your future projects!
