Rob Daniels’ Teen Wolf turns 35 this year. On August 23, 1985, the world was introduced to teenager Scott Howard (Michael J. Fox: Back To The Future franchise), a young man who just happens to also be a werewolf. To celebrate, we’ve created a list of fun facts you may not know.
When high school nerd Scott Howard learns from his father, Harold (James Hampton: Pump Up The Volume 1990), that being a werewolf runs in the family, he decides to take advantage of his freakish trait. Along for the ride are his best friends, Stiles (Jerry Levine: Out Of Bounds 1986) and Boof (Susan Ursitti: Zapped 1988).
10 Fun Facts
1) Scott Howard’s house was located on the same block as teenagers George McFly’s and Lorraine Baines’ houses from Back to the Future (1985).
2) According to Rod Daniel (WKRP In Cincinnati TV series), when test audiences first saw Scott’s dad as a werewolf, “they went insane.” He said the laughter was so loud, “it obliterated the next minute of the film.”
3) It was really Jerry Levine on top of the van, not a stuntman. Levine was secured with a wire that ran through the van’s roof, up his pants, and around his waist.
4) The entire production took only twenty-one days.
5) When Susan Ursitti slapped Michael J. Fox, she did it too hard at first. Rod Daniel had to explain what a softer stage slap was.
6) This is the second time Michael J. Fox played a character named Scott. His character in Midnight Madness (1980) also has the first name Scott.
7) According to Jerry Levine, the full name of Stiles was Rupert Stilinski.
8) Jerry Levine said the scene with all the shaving cream on the floor made it feel like he was ice skating.
9) The picture was released during a 1980s cycle of werewolf movies. These included Wolfen (1981), The Howling (1981), Howling II: … Your Sister Is a Werewolf (1985), Full Moon High (1981), Teen Wolf Too (1987), The Company of Wolves (1984), Howling III (1987), Silver Bullet (1985), and An American Werewolf in London (1981).
10) The extras were so excited to be a part of the movie that Rod Daniel said he didn’t even have to direct them. They showed up for all six days it took to film the basketball scenes.
