Although I’m an essential employee, I’ve still been indulging in as many movies and books as I can to escape from the current reality we are living in. It’s crazy out there, folks but art saves lives. One of my recent favorites is We Summon the Darkness, which took me completely by surprise!
The film was directed by Marc Meyers and written by Alan Trezza. It has a killer cast starring Alexandra Daddario, Johnny Knoxville, Keean Johnson, Maddie Hasson, Logan Miller, Amy Forsyth, and Austin Swift.
Synopsis for We Summon the Darkness
On the way to a heavy metal concert, Alexis (Alexandra Daddario) and two girlfriends hear a news report of a local murder believed to be tied to a series of satanic killings. After the show, the girls invite three guys to join them at the estate owned by Alexis’s father, a fire-and-brimstone preacher (Johnny Knoxville). What starts as a party suddenly turns dark and deadly in this devilishly entertaining thriller.
The film takes place in 1988 and everything is sex, drugs, and rock n roll just as it should be. What starts as a fun concert with friends, turns into a night full of chaos, blood, and misunderstandings. I love a story that can deliver a good and unexpected twist and this is deliciously perfect.
What makes this film exceptional is the impeccable casting. Alexandra Daddario, Maddie Hasson, and Amy Forsyth are the ultimate badass trio – sexy, fun, and deadly. They each deliver stellar performances that will make you laugh and even shock you. Keean Johnson, Logan Miller, and Austin Swift are equally exceptional in their roles and help bring unique personalities and entertainment to the film. Then there’s Johnny Knoxville, who blew me away with his character. This is probably one of his best roles to date. He plays creepy all too well.
There’s a decent amount of blood-shed (it could have used a little more) and some unexpected kills. The ending was great because there are twists left and right and you never knew what was going to happen next. The film also has a great soundtrack that fits magically with its unique and crazy tone.
