Michael Rooker is one of those talented actors that have found success in multiple genres. His resume includes acting credits in horror, action, dramas, and comedies. Since April 6th is Michael Rooker’s 65th birthday, it is only fitting to celebrate by listing his top five legendary roles.
5. Mallrats (1995). It may be a comedy, but this classic Kevin Smith film had one quite horrific scene. In the movie, Jared Svenning (Michael Rooker) got more than he bargained for with some chocolate covered pretzels. Beware of the stink palm!
4. Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. These blockbuster films introduced us to the character of Yondu (Michael Rooker). This tough and rugged space pirate showed us he has a softer side. He is “Mary Poppins, y’all!”
3. The Walking Dead. Michael Rooker played Daryll Dixon’s brother, Merle, in this beloved television series about people trying to survive the zombie apocalypse. Merle was not everyone’s favorite character, but he definitely redeemed himself at the end. This character’s death scene was one of the most dramatic and tear jerking in TWD history.
2. Slither (2006). Michael Rooker plays Grant Grant, a slithery husband even before the alien life took over his body. Needless to say, he didn’t improve. Rooker gives another great performance in this horror film that is a mix of Society (1989) and Night of the Creeps (1986).
1. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986). Michael Rooker’s portrayal of the psychopath Henry is phenomenal. This is his most controversial role as the storyline is quite disturbing. It is a must see for every horror fan!
