I can’t lie… I’m pretty much a fan of everything Brian K . Williams and Ellie Church have done (especially together), so to say I have been looking forward to Jessie’s Super Normal Regular Average Day would be an understatement. I backed the Kickstarter campaign, but was prepared to wait until October or so to see it. Thankfully, I was given the chance to review Jessie’s Super Normal Regular Average Day for the 2019 GenreBlast Film Festival. Did the film live up to my high expectations?

Jessie’s Super Normal Regular Average Day is the latest film from writer/director Brian K. Williams (Space Babes From Outer Space 2017 – read our review here) and star Ellie Church (Headless 2015). The film features supporting turns from Allison Maier (Space Babes From Outer Space 2017), Plank Face’s Alyss Winkler (read our interview with her here) and Jett Bryant (Frankenstein Created Bikers 2016 – read our review here).
Synopsis:
All Jessie wanted was to sleep in on her day off, but there’s a whole Hell of a lot going on that’s keeping her from doing that. The only question she keeps having to ask herself is if any of it is even real in the first place.
Jessie’s Super Normal Regular Average Day is probably the weirdest comedy you will watch all year. Where else are you going to see a trio of topless nuns with pink chainsaws and exploding fish? Nowhere, that’s where. This is definitely the type of film for those who love a little weirdness with their entertainment.
Jessie’s Super Normal Regular Average Day is an absolute blast, thanks to its wonderful cast. Everyone puts in excellent work, but as always, Ellie Church and Jett Bryant are standouts. Ellie is wonderful as Jessie, who is consistently confused by the events in her life but just goes with the flow as things continually get weirder and weirder. Jett Bryant is hilarious as Rodger, who has one of funniest lines in the movie about driving a couch while under the influence of donut drugs. Also worth mentioning is Allison Maier as Jessie’s roommate, Misty, who is great with her nonchalant delivery when recounting experiences that would terrify the average person.
One of the other things I loved about the movie was the soundtrack. It’s full of excellent Ska and Punk songs, which gives the film a wonderfully upbeat and infectious energy. The tunes are perfectly set to the scenes they are in, almost giving it the feel of a musical.
One thing that may turn some viewers off is the film’s ending. This is very much the type of movie that is more about the experience itself rather than its destination. It’s a fun and wild trip, even if it doesn’t always make a whole lot of sense. This isn’t a film for everyone, but its audience will fucking love it.
Final Thoughts
While not a film for everyone, Jessie’s Super Normal Regular Average Day is an indie comedy that its target audience is sure to love. Featuring a talented and lovable cast, bat shit crazy situations and insanely quotable dialogue, Jessie’s Super Normal Regular Average Day is destined to become a stoner comedy cult classic. Highly recommended.
