WiHM 2018-Interview with Talia Jenà, Owner of Sweet Shop of Horrors

One of my first articles here at PopHorror was about a horror-themed bath and body shop I discovered online one day called Sweet Shop of Horrors. You may read that article here. I am always on the lookout for horror-themed items for myself and for gifts. Okay… truth is, mostly for myself. But I knew that there was something really special about the stuff I found at Sweet Shop of Horrors, and I had to pick the brain of the owner, Talia Jenà. I knew I wanted to feature her for WiHM because she has the most unique and detailed products I’ve ever seen. Read on to learn more about Talia, her shop and her horror inspirations.

PopHorror: Thank you for taking the time to speak with me. Let’s start off with this: how did you get started in business?

Talia Jenà: I got started in the business with my obsession with Lush. I then realized I was spending way too much money, when I could probably make them myself. So, I did some research and through lots of trial and error, started Sweet Shop of Horrors.

PopHorror: That persistence definitely shows in your work! How did you come up with the idea to focus on horror-themed products?

Talia Jenà: I decided to focus on horror- inspired products because of my love of horror. Since I was a little girl, I’ve always been into horror/Halloween. I was always the weird girl, so how could I not make my bath products weird and creepy? (laughs) I guess I see the beauty in the darkness.

PopHorror: “Mister…we are the weirdos!” (laughs)  Okay… what would you consider some of your favorite products?

Talia Jenà: Some of my favorite products are Suzie, Mrs. Creature and Feed Me, Seymour.

PopHorror: Those are freakin’ awesome! Which piece are you most proud of?

Talia Jenà: Most proud of… that’s hard! I would say it’s a toss up between Feed Me, Seymour and Suzie. It’s a lot of work to make both of them, between cutting the eyes out of the doll heads or sculpting the heads of Seymour. Those two are my most proud pieces, for sure!

PopHorror: Wow! That is a crazy amount of work and detail! But it definitely shows in the finished product. What are some of your favorite horror films?

Talia Jenà: Number one favorite horror film is The Exorcist. Some other favorites are May, Nightmare on Elm Street and Killer Klowns from Outer Space. I remember watching that movie as a kid, eating popcorn, throwing it at my brother and wondering why he didn’t turn into a cotton candy pod! (laughs)

PopHorror: OMG! I totally forgot about the cotton candy pods! I need to rewatch that one! How about your favorite horror character?

Talia Jenà: Favorite horror character is probably Freddy Krueger. He’s funny and witty. He’s the man of my dreams! (laughs)

PopHorror: He’s definitely in my top five! So… maybe we can look forward to a future Freddy Krueger themed bath bomb? Which brings me to my next question. What do you have planned for future?

Talia Jenà: Future plans are to grow my business and hopefully be able to hire some people to help me grow. I also have some cool ideas for new products that I’m pretty excited about!

PopHorror: Can’t wait to see the new products! Lastly, who’s your favorite female in horror?

Talia Jenà: Favorite female in horror is definitely Vampira. She’s gorgeous, sexy and her eyebrows are life goals!

PopHorror: I couldn’t agree more! Before Elvira, there was Vampira! Thank you so much for talking with me. I’m looking forward to more products!
