PopHorror Let's Get Scared
In the world of horror, we humans have been attacked by some pretty outrageous things. We’ve been clobbered by killer klowns, destroyed by donuts and bombarded by bunnies. We’ve even lambasted by Lederhosen zombies. However, it’s not every day that we’re pounded by poultry. Genoveva Rossi’s debut horror comedy short, Attack of the Killer Chickens, brings broilers back in a whole new way.
The Official Synopsis:
It’s the dawn of a new age, a chicken age. Attack of the Killer Chickens.
The 2015 Cluck Cluck Productions short was directed, written and produced by Genoveva Rossi (check out our interview with her here), who gained experience in films like Death House (2018), Gordon Lewis’ BloodMania (2017), Apocalypse Kiss (2014), Take 2: The Audition (2015) and the upcoming indie flick, Safe Place. Rossi also stars in the film, along with Pamela Martin (Porcelain Dolls 2005), Edward X. Young (The Green Monster 2009), Rocco George (Black Wake 2018), Nick Petito (The Michael J. Fox Show TV series) and K.J. Hopkins (Holocaust Cannibal 2014). Rossi had a lot of help from her cast members on this, with George, Petito and Martin co-producing, Hopkins finding shooting locations, Petito shooting, editing and lighting the short, and George and Hopkins creating the special effects, including the killer chicken puppets. The music and score for the short was composed by Not Another Bad Horror Flick’s James Hostonsky.

Lloyd Kaufman himself couldn’t have created Attack of the Killer Chickens any better than Genoveva Rossi did. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought Uncle Lloydie himself had written and directed this bloody spoof on killer animal horror films, most certainly his own Poultrygeist (2006). He certainly wasn’t calling fowl play, as the film was selected to screen at the 2017 TromaDance Film Festival. The King of the Bs knows outlandishly awesome horror when he sees it!
Yes, there are humans that make appearances in this short, but the chickens are the real stars of the show. Remember Pigs In Space from The Muppet Show? Rossi has created the chicken version, and they’re freaking awesome. Granted, they’re much cheesier looking than anything Jim Henson ever created, but that’s what makes them so fun. Don’t get me wrong – these fluffy, clucking superstars aren’t sweet and loveable. They’re bloodthirsty as hell. They’ll rip out anything they can get their beaks on… appendages, guts, even eyeballs. But what they do is nothing compared to what the humans are willing to do.
In case there’s any doubt, I loved this short… and I’m not the only one. Attack of the Killer Chickens has already won Best Spoof, Best Comedy, Best Short Film, Best Actress for Genoveva Rossi and Best Supporting Actress for Pamela Martin.
