If you’re the kind of person who revels in the occult or dark mysteries of the unknown, A Dark Song is most definitely one to add to your viewing list! It’s also just happens to be one of my favorite films of 2017. If you’re looking for believable storylines and concepts in this genre, you won’t be disappointed. I, for one, was pleasantly surprised.
A Dark Song is about a distraught lady searching for a way to reconnect with her deceased child. In her desperation, she searches out an Occultist and together they delve into the black arts to conjure their Holy Guardian Angel. Things go spiraling downhill when they soon discover that the arts are not something to be toyed with, and their dabbling soon makes a turn for the worst with deadly consequences.
A Dark Song was written and directed by Liam Gavin (Mutant Chronicles 2009) and stars Steve Oram (Sightseers 2012), Catherine Walker (Leap Year 2010) and Susan Loughnane (Love/Hate 2010).
The directing in A Dark Song is superb and the acting is flawless, with the two main actors keeping you glued to your seat. The set dressing is stunning, with detailed scenes that add to the atmosphere of ritual and drama. If anything, the imagery is a magical act on its own! To top this off, the sound effects give that wonderfully disturbing touch – much needed for that eerie feel.
