Awhile back, I reviewed the indie horror slasher film WTF! starring Andrea Hunt. Recently, I got the chance to chat with Andrea about acting, the horror films she has appeared in as well as what’s next for her.
PopHorror: Hello, Andrea! Thanks for taking a minute to chat with me. Tell me, how did you get into acting?
Andrea Hunt: I started dancing and singing when I was three years old with a company. Once they began offering acting lessons and putting on plays at the local Indianapolis theater, I was hooked!
PopHorror: What made you want to become an actress?
Andrea Hunt: I feel like I have always wanted to be an actress. I remember loving the musical Annie when I was younger. I would literally spend all day pretending to be Annie and choreographing all my own dances. I eventually got to do the musical and that was a blast.
PopHorror: You starred in Anthony Ferrante’s short, Killer Deal, with Ian Ziering. That’s pretty awesome. What was the experience like?
Andrea Hunt: It was my first virtual reality, so it was awesome and also a little challenging. I have worked with Anthony Ferrant, the mastermind behind Sharknad, three times now, and I just think he is amazing and so creative. He loves to joke around on set and throw things at you with the camera rolling so he can get honest reactions. Anthony and Ian are great guys, so it was a blast to be on set with them. The challenge came because it was virtual reality. I have a part where I am running around the room, and I can’t go to certain parts of the room but they can’t mark it because there are camera’s everywhere for VR – that part was especially hard.
PopHorror: The sounds impossible! You starred in and co wrote the horror short LipSmack. What can you tell me about the project? Where can we watch it?
Andrea Hunt: One of my best friends, Barrett Donner, had this idea for a social commentary about women in relationships. I thought it was a cool idea and an awesome message, so I helped write it. It’s on YouTube.
PopHorror: Your latest film, WTF!, just released on demand. What can you tell us about your character, Bonnie?
Andrea Hunt: Yes, it did. Bonnie Saunders is a college student about to graduate and get ready for her final spring break. She’s a rich girl, beauty queen type who loves to be the life of the party.
PopHorror: What, if any, similarities do you have with Bonnie?
Andrea Hunt: We’re both girly and love fashion.
PopHorror: What was it like shooting a low budget horror film?
Andrea Hunt: It was amazing. WTF! was the most fun I have ever had on set. A lot of learning along the way, but everyone was so great. Sinc it was low budget, I think everyone brought their A-game and pitched in where they could. It was definitely such a wonderful experience because of the people.
PopHorror: You have, by far, one of the most messed up deaths in the film. How did you emotionally prepare for that and how was it to film?
Andrea Hunt: Phew! I did a lot of imagination work! I remember that night of filming was intense but one of my favorite nights. I didn’t see my makeup until I looked in the mirror while they were filming, so that was crazy.
PopHorror: You have another horror film that just released called Awaken the Shadowman. What can you tell me about the film and the character you play?
Andrea Hunt: Here’s a quick synopsis – after the mysterious disappearance of their mother, estranged brothers reunite and discover an unknown supernatural force. I play Christy, the wife of one of the estranged brothers. From an outsider’s perspective, I seem to have the perfect life, but things aren’t always what they seem. This was another project I worked on with Anthony Ferrante. Awaken the Shadowman was released in select theaters and is now OnDemand, Redbox, iTunes, Google Play and Amazon.
PopHorror: Do you have any other horror projects coming up?
Andrea Hunt: Yes, I have a new horror project in the early stages that I am soooo excited about. All I can say right now is that it will be a revenge tale with lots of blood and gore!
PopHorror: If you could work with anyone in horror, who would it be?
Andrea Hunt: I want to work with so many people. Jamie Lee Curtis and Neve Campbell would be awesome. I would also love to work on another comedy horror with people like Seth Rogan and James Franco.
PopHorror: Lastly, are you a horror fan? If so what are some of your favorite horror films?
Andrea Hunt: I get scared easily, so I don’t watch a ton of horror, but I do have a few favorites including Sixth
Sense, Get Out, Silence of the Lambs, Scream and The Shining.
