I’m a big fan of creature features that are ridiculously over the top, hilarious and fun. Haunted House of Pancakes fits that description perfectly. Read on for my thoughts on Haunted House of Pancakes.
Synopsis
On Halloween night, a demonic possession takes over a diner, transforming the food into bloodthirsty creatures out for revenge. Trapped inside the nightmarish diner, a waiter and a college student must band together to fight back. Will they escape the clutches of the Haunted House of Pancakes—or fall victim to the food apocalypse?
Haunted House of Pancakes was directed by Nathan Dalton from a script written with Paul Newton. The film stars Jada Krueger (Zombie Repellant), Fabian Guerrero (Final Summer), Patrick Johnston (Reckless Mercy), Veronica Halko (Squatters), Chris De Christopher (Attack of the Killer Donuts), Niki McElroy (Shady Grove), Spooky Madison (Phantom Fun World), and Jason Crowe (Gush).

Haunted House of Pancakes is tons of fun. It’s like Poultrygeist meets The Thing with a dash of Evil Dead thrown in for good measure. It never takes itself too seriously but it makes you care about the characters, especially Jay and Sarah, played by Fabian Guerrero and Jada Krueger. I loved their performances. I liked that they both secretly had crushes on each other. It was really cute. I loved how they worked together and wouldn’t leave each other behind.
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Spooky Madison (check out our interview). and Jason Crowe here, as they are two of the hardest working people in the indie horror scene and I always get excited when I see their names attached to projects. Spooky Madison plays a mean girl extremely well and Jason Crowe plays a ridiculously funny redneck truck driver. Niki McElroy is absolutely hilarious as Ruby, a good natured, pie loving prostitute. She stole every scene she was in.

I love how over the top the kills were. They were absolutely beautiful carnage. One of my favorite was a man being torn apart by food possessed people and another was a person being killed by rotisserie chicken. I really liked the production design and how their was blood and body parts everywhere and a lot of colorful lighting that added to the films atmosphere. The effects were great and effectively gory. The creature effects offered a ton of food beasties that were really cool to look at and very effective at killing. We get everything from killer pancakes to fry spiders, salads that eat people, carnivorous pies, and even a monsterous toilet.
Final Thoughts
Haunted House of Pancakes is a fun indie horror film. It provides solid kills, great special effects and an excellent cast of characters that you actually care about. Highly recommended.
