Lisa Sturgis has been producing and directing films and commercials for 20 years. Trapped Inn is one of her beautifully wild stories. I have to say I enjoyed the movie a lot. It’s going to be a movie to watch again and again.
Let’s talk about why I feel this way.
Synopsis
“An American cycling team gets trapped in a historic lodge during training camp high in the remote mountains in Europe. After members from the team mysteriously die, two rival teammates, Connor (Matt rife) and Greg(Robert Palmer Watkins) clash as they fight for survival and try to uncover what’s killing everyone on the team”.—Leah Sturgis
My Take
Trapped Inn has a vibe like if the iconic Evil Dead franchise and The Fog had a child. It starts menacingly with only words. It doesn’t take long before it erupts and goes bonkers. That film felt almost like an 80s slasher. The film takes us back to another time when we worried about trees crashing through our windows. It also runs circles around the horror genre. Fair warning, though: I don’t think this is an excellent movie for “gore hounds”; it will just make you mad.
The best way to describe it is that the scenery and plot were amazing. It is also a fresh look at the subgenre we love. Though it’s not an anthology, it has that Creepshow feeling. You start to feel the dread of what will happen next, which keeps your attention throughout the movie. Sometimes, I can get toxic with modern horror, with few exceptions. We all do sometimes; we are only human. Trapped Inn takes a dying genre and puts it back in its high place in horror.
Some movies are just meant to be; this is one of them. I found it enjoyable and yelled, “DON’T GO OUT THERE!” at the TV because I formed a bond with some of the characters. You don’t need anything complicated; it’s a movie that is enjoyable in its own way. It won’t disappoint. It’s not graphic; it’s very tasteful. It’s not a movie you have to hide your kids from when it comes to horror movies. What can I say? I started at a very young age when there were always boobs and hair metal.
In The End
I can’t think of anything I didn’t like about Trapped Inn. It was a great watch because it was different from modern horror, and for me, that’s OK. Sometimes we butt heads or carry a keyboard to release our inner warrior. Trapped Inn is the film people would sleep on, and that’s a bad mistake. Stop gatekeeping and enjoy some modern movies.
The horror genre is very active to this day. We get blockbuster studios to make our movies for us. Stay independent and don’t follow the unwritten laws; they get us nowhere. Big box movies never hit me as hard as the 90’s VHS revolution. Trapped Inn gave me that feeling of skipping school and watching movies on an illegal cable setup. Give the movie a chance and tell me if you can relate as well.
Trapped Inn is currently available to rent or own on Amazon Prime.
