I recently checked out the intense and gripping crime drama, Downeast. The film was directed by Joe Raffa and who also wrote the script based on a story by Maine native Greg Finely. Finley also stars in the film alongside Dylan Silver, and Judson Mills.
Synopsis for Downeast
Downeast dives into the often-ignored seedy underbelly of Maine, following Emma Maddox as she returns to her hometown, haunted by the mysterious death of her brother Mikey years ago. As she reconnects with his best friend Tommy, the two rekindle their flame and Emma begins to uncover the web of lies the town has been keeping. Will Emma get the closure she so desperately seeks, or fall victim to the town’s turbulent ways?
Like many crime dramas, the storyline for Downeast was mysterious and intense. The story is about death, love, crime, and finding out the ugly truth of what really is going on in this small town of Maine. The closer Emma gets to discovering the truth, the riskier it becomes for her and some want to end her the moment she starts to sniff around. Tommy loves her and wants to protect her, but can he?
One of the best things about this film is the acting. It’s very genuine and raw. Nothing flashy or over the top. Greg Finley and Dylan Silver deliver phenomenal, emotionally powered performances throughout the film, and their chemistry together on-screen is flawless.
Also, the cinematography was beautiful and helped create the perfect tone for this film. Everything on the surface looks beautiful and pleasant, but in reality, the town is ruled by drugs, death, and fear.
The rough and tumble crime drama, Downeast, is now available on a number of digital and cable platforms, including iTunes, Amazon Video, Vudu, Comcast, Spectrum, and Cox. Check it out and let us know what you think!
