PopHorror Let's Get Scared
When I agreed to review Scott Lake’s short, Killing Time, all I had to go on was the synopsis:
Ethan, a caring husband and loving father, is awakened by a masked man with a gun. Upset and looking for answers, what Ethan learns will leave him terrified to his very core.
Home invasions are always a scary prospect, so the fact that this poor guy was woken up in the middle of the night to a man with a gun is all the more terrifying. What could be scarier than that? Plenty.
Killing Time was directed by debut filmmaker Scott Lake (Scarefest Love 2014) and co-written by himself and Indie Brigade’s George C. Romero (read our interview with him here). The short stars Jay Allen Tucker (Pool Ghouls 2021) as Ethan, a man jolted out of bed by a man with a gun. Bastard Sons Of A Judas Goat composed the score.
Killing Time starts out with a masked man making his way through a darkened house. There’s no dialogue, only music, as we follow him from room to room. At first, he just checks the fridge for snacks and picks up a broken clock (a clue for later), but then the massacre begins.
I am highly impressed with this short! Although it could probably be edited down a bit timewise, the twist and the story that creates it is amazing. I would love to see this entire tale explored even further. I won’t give away any spoilers, but I will say that this is a must-see short, one that you would never guess came from a first time filmmaker. I honestly cannot wait to see more from Scott Lake. Check this bad boy out if you get the chance!
