The Sinners is a new thrilling murder mystery that is being described as a blend of The Craft meets Seven meets Jawbreakers, and after watching it I can’t think of a more perfect description. This film was directed by Courtney Paige as well as co-written by herself, Erin Hazlehurst, and Madison Smith. It stars Kaitlyn Bernard, Brenna Llewellyn, Brenna Coates, Keilani Elizabeth Rose, Jasmine Randhawa, Carly Fawcett, Natalie Malaika, Aleks Paunovic, and Lochlyn Munro.
Synopsis for The Sinners
Seven schoolgirls, part of a clique dubbed The Sins, become the lethal target of an unknown killer after a harmless prank goes horribly wrong.
This was such a unique and fun story about the seven deadly sins. It’s a common stereotype that Christian teenagers often rebel in strict religious homes and from experience I’ve seen this to be true. This is what happens in The Sinners. All of the girls are labeled a different sin, but really they’re no different from any other teenager. Each one of them is just trying to discover who they are and make the best of their younger years. This all comes to halt when their freedom is put at risk by one person. Soon they find themselves in a murder mystery and no one knows who will die next.
All of the performances in this film are phenomenal but Kaitlyn Bernard gave a glowing performance that stood out above the rest. Her character drives the film and keeps the audience wondering what she’ll do next. Brenna Llewellyn also delivers an outstanding and powerful performance that will send shivers down your spine.
The Sinners is full of twists and turns, some the viewer may find surprising and others not so much. There were certain things about the ending I loved, other things I felt were a bit of let down and rushed. I also thought the two arrogant detectives that came in to help with the investigation took away from the story and had didn’t serve a purpose. Beyond the cinematography is beautiful and some of the scenes are hauntingly breathtaking.
Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed this film and although there are some points throughout the film that could have been better, The Sinners is overall a unique murder mystery that I highly recommend. Brainstorm Media’s upcoming thriller The Sinners hits On Demand on February 19.
