Losing someone is never easy and sometimes unbearably painful. We all seek out different things to fill the void; some of those aren’t healthy and change us. This and more happens in the new hauntingly disturbing film Woodshock,
Woodshock is co-written as well as co-directed by Kate Mulleavy and Laura Mulleavy. Kirsten Dunst, Joe Cole, Pilou Asbæk, Steph DuVall, Jack Kilmer, and Susan Traylor.
Official Synopsis:
A haunted young woman spirals in the wake of a profound loss, torn between her fractured emotional state and the reality-altering effects of a potent cannabinoid drug.
Woodshock is one of the most cinematically beautiful films I’ve seen this year. The colors, lighting, and angles all work together and create something mesmerizing. I especially love how it was shot often with reflections. It definitely gives a dreamlike atmosphere.
I’ve always loved Kirsten Dunst and she kills in it this role. She delivers a beautiful, heartbreaking and tragic performance as Theresa. Her emotions are up and down and the audience never knows what to expect next from her. She is also very relatable as everyone at one point another endures the pain she is going through with losing someone. Plus, the feeling of losing control and feeling so small in this big world and trying to connect to something is something we’ve all experienced or will experience.
The ending shocked me quite a bit but in a good way. It really took the film a step further and made the story all that more memorable.
I also really appreciated the special features. They include some information about the making of the film and it really helps you understand things even more.
Final Thoughts on Woodshock:
Woodshock is a beautifully intense film that will leave you with a rollercoaster of emotions. I can’t wait to see more from Kate Mulleavy and Laura Mulleavy, they know how to create something special. I definitely recommend picking up the Blu-Ray which you can find – here.
