What Is All The Buzz About? ‘SALTBURN’ (2023) – Review

The internet is all abuzz about Saltburn (2023), a shocking new thriller written and directed by Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman, 2020 – read our review here). Does the movie live up to the hype? Is it as shocking as everyone says?

Let’s have a look!

Synopsis

It is over the course of a school year at Oxford University that Oliver and Felix forge an unlikely friendship since they are from vastly different backgrounds. After Felix learns about Oliver’s unfortunate living situation he would be returning to for the summer, he intervenes and invites him to stay at his family’s estate. This starts a chain of horrific events.

The film stars Barry Keoghan (The Killing of a Sacred Deer, 2017), Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, 2019), and Archie Madekwe (Midsommar, 2019). It is successfully luring audiences with the promise of some truly disturbing scenes.

Here’s a look at the trailer!

My Thoughts

Saltburn (2023) has an excellent cast. Jacob Elordi, Alison Oliver, Archie Madekwe, Rosamund Pike, and Richard E. Grant deliver as the Catton family. They bring to life these deplorable characters that Oliver (Barry Keoghan) the “little moth” successfully infiltrates.

Jacob Elordi as Felix

Saltburn (2023) tells an interesting story. I tried to avoid spoilers and went in not really knowing what the movie was about. All I knew was there are some unsettling scenes, but did not know what that entailed.

Honestly, the film starts out innocently enough but gradually builds, giving little crumbs along the way. It was truly brilliant storytelling! Oh and those troubling scenes are just icing on the cake.

Emerald Fennell as Oliver
