Tim Burton’s Classic ‘BATMAN’ (1989) Celebrates 35 Years

1989 will always be a memorable year for me. I will admit that I am not a comic guy, which makes this even more special. I fell in love with Batman, and it started a fandom for me, even though I wasn’t a comic person, as I mentioned.  I loved the idea and watched all the movies and shows, even the ones made in the 40’s. Batman movies always seem to have the best plots and no slow parts;

Tim Burton took on the task of making Batman his own. It was beautiful. I fell in love with it right away.

Two Terrific actors

This movie is so classic because it has a perfect background and plot. It all began with my favorite character of all time for action movies: Jack Nicholson. He will always be my ultimate Joker, and no one can beat him except Caesar Romero. It’s just magical to me. Everything fits so well in Batman. It’s like we were given a fresh story that still celebrated the Batman TV show from the 60’s

Synopsis

Bruce Wayne (Micheal Keaton The Founder 2016))has an alter ego that protects the city of Gotham. He is soon to meet his arch rival Jack Napier (Jack Nicholson. One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest 1975).  After falling into chemicals Napier becomes Joker. Joker has the entire city high on a toxic gas. It’s up to Batman to protect everyone against his new enemy. How will he deal with love? We found out here with Vicki Vale.

Go Time

The most entertaining part is Jack Nicholson’s portrayal of the cooky, funny, and best makeup job to date Joker. I was always fond of Joker, but after seeing this movie as a kid, I grew to love Joker, and I still do. He is the criminal mastermind of Gotham; yeah, I said it; all those other enemies are wastes of time. The character was just something that attracted me; maybe it was the makeup. I loved scary faces, and this Joker is terrifying.

Plus, there is a different story of how the Joker came to be. In my opinion, the entire movie was just based on people who wanted to have fun with a great director. There are even comedy scenes with Bruce Wayne. It all works so well, from dialogue to action scenes.

Another thing about this movie is it premiered at a time when parents didn’t care and abused credit cards. We had all the best toys and the best period of pop culture. People, including 6-year-old me, flooded into theaters to enjoy this movie, and in the end, it got a standing ovation. You can’t find big movies like this anymore.

In the end

Batman will always be my hero, but the Joker stole my heart first. I guess you could call me a fair weather fan, but it’s much different. This movie comforts me. I love getting all comfortable in bed and watching it in the wintertime. It’s a routine, a regular night when the snow falls. I have been attracted to this movie for 35 years now, and I still have my Batman snuggie.

You can rent and own Batman on digital platforms and stream it on MAX.

About Craig Lucas

I hail from rural PA where there isn't much to do except fixate on something. Horror was, and still is my fixation. I have 35 years of horror movies under my belt I love the horror community and it loves me. I also have a rad web show with my friends from all over the country called Dadmented Geek Den.
