The Nightmare Before Christmas was written by Tim Burton, Michael McDowell, and Caroline Thompson. This cult classic was directed by Henry Selick and the music was created by Danny Elfman. This stop-motion animated musical stars Danny Elfman, Chris Sarandon, Catherine O’hara, William Hickey, Glenn Shadix, Paul Reubens, and Ken Page. It was released on October 13, 1993.

Synopsis:
Halloweentown’s beloved pumpkin king, Jack Skellington, has become bored with the same annual routine of frightening people in the “real world.” This all changes when he accidentally stumbles on Christmastown. Jack plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over. Unfortunately, he discovers even the best-laid plans of mice and skeleton men can go seriously awry.
Movie Trivia:
The Nightmare Before Christmas was based on a poem that was written by Tim Burton. This poem only had the characters of Jack, Zero, and Santa in it. Burton’s inspiration for the poem came from witnessing Halloween merchandise being replaced with Christmas items in a display in a store he was in. This led to a spark of genius that developed into a classic film.
The Nightmare Before Christmas faced some challenges when it came to the creation of a script. Because of this, the music for the stop-motion animated film actually was completed first. Danny Elfman wrote the songs based on sketches, as well as bits and pieces of the story Tim Burton provided to him.
The Nightmare Before Christmas was the first stop-motion animated film to be rated PG by the MPAA. It received this rating because of horrific images and some animated violence. So, proceed with caution!
