I grew up in a magical time, primed for shows that I cherish to this day. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were my first real love. It was an obsession, I had every toy, I had every VHS cartoon collection, everything was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, even my underwear. The movie being released was a monumental moment for me. I wore my favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles merchandise, they even let me carry in toy nunchucks because let’s face it, the world was a lot different. We had heroes, it was a time before tragedy turned the entire world upside down.
I can still smell the popcorn in the air of our old dollar matinee movie theater. I even got to stay home from school so I could see it.
Synopsis
Four turtles and a rat are transformed into a humanized state by a mutagenetic ooze from the sewer they hid in. The rat becomes their father and mentor, and teaches them all he knows about the world, and ninjitzu. The turtles use their newfound skills to combat the crime in New York City. But when their mentor is captured by an enemy only known as Shredder. Can they hold true to what they’ve learned, and stay together as a brotherhood?
The Rundown
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was perfect in every way to me. When it was released on VHS, it was one of the films that had to be replaced constantly; I would watch them until they wore out. The setting was perfect, It was what I always imagined the lair might have looked in real life. I was also entranced by the foot clan hideout, and I longed to see a cool place like that. Everything was made to build up my love. Not to mention the kicking soundtrack. Also, this may be one of the movies I quote the most, just because I love it that much.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles could be intense at times for us young ones, overall, you just wanna cheer on the right side. Do you believe in Shredder? Or turtle power? I am at a happy medium because I love both. Shredder is everything scary in the world. Instead of trying to take over the world, he wanted to take over a city first. The fact that they were selling stolen goods just seemed fitting. The film didn’t really need any other villains; Shredder and the Foot Clan are tough cookies. I loved the fact that more than nijas, they were robbers. It made the story not so far-fetched by showing petty crimes, even if there were talking turtles.
In The End
I introduced my daughters to the TMNT universe and they sucked it right in. We spend several weekends posted up on the couch enjoying this film and all the other magic of the TMNT universe, I even love the new generations, I just love those turtles.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie had everything I loved, I danced my way out of the theater when the good guys won. Isn’t that the magic of childhood? We always wanted the good guys to win, and we weren’t let down.
