Rabbit Season

Spooky Madison’s ‘RABBIT SEASON’ (2024) – Short Film Review

Spooky Madison is a triple threat: actor, writer and director. Spooky Madison has been racking up credits in the indie horror world for a while now and I got to check out a project of theirs that I’ve been dying to see: Rabbit Season. It’s a short film they acted, wrote and starred in.

Rabbit Season was written and directed by Spooky Madison (our interview). The film stars Spooky Madison and Anthony Dain. The film follows a young woman named Rabbit Rowe who is being stalked by an unknown man.

Rabbit Season is a really cool short that functions as a proof of concept piece. It gives you just enough to whet your appetite and leaves you needing more. Spooky Madison does a wonderful job as Rabbit Rowe. She aptly portrays the duality of the character. I have so many questions about this character: Where she comes from, how she got here and why she’s wearing face paint and a bunny suit. Anthony Dain is suitably menacing as the man who is stalking her.

In addition to the performances, there were a lot of things I really loved about the film. The opening credits were absolutely beautiful and invoke a fairy tale vibe. The film has narration from Spooky Madison and it reminds me of classics such as Edward Scissorhands and The Princess Bride. There is also a bad ass metal end credit song from composer Frank Dormani.

Final Thoughts

Spooky Madison’s Rabbit Season offers an intriguing concept that is practically begging for an expansion. The film features great performance and an interesting story that leaves you wanting to see more of this world.
