Sink Your Teeth Into Our ‘Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation’ (2018) Movie Review

Although I watch movies every day for my writing career, I rarely get a chance to hit up the theaters. I’ve missed a lot of good ones recently, but I just knew I had to see Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.

Both the first and second one are beloved favorites that I’ve watched over and over again. I didn’t assume that 3 would be as great as the others, because sequels rarely are, but I had hope that it would at least be a fun summer treat.

Genndy Tartakovsky is, once again, the director for the third installment of the Hotel Transylvania films. Our favorite group of monsters are back with voice overs from Adam SandlerAndy SambergSelena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Molly Shannon, Steve Buscemi, David Spade, Keegan-Michael Key, Jim Gaffigan, Kathryn Hahn, Asher Blinkoff, Chris Parnell, Joe Jonas, and Chrissy Teigen.

The monster hotel business is booming, but with heavy work flow comes less family time. Mavis (Gomez) can tell that Dracula (Sandler) is unhappy for one reason or another, and plans out an elaborate monster summer vacation for the whole crew. Once they arrive, Dracula discovers something he never thought he’d find again, but what is it?

I’m happy to share with you guys that Hotel Pennsylvanian 3 is just as fun and cute as the other two films. All of our favorite characters are back with some new ones as well. It’s a fun story line with a few twists and turns… the perfect summertime adventure.

I absolutely love the group of actors who portray these characters. They really bring the monsters to life and make it a fun and thrilling experience that the whole family can enjoy. Mavis has always been a favorite of mine, but I also enjoyed Ericka’s (Hahn) character as well. She’s full of surprises, and I really dug her personality.

I was delighted by the story in Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation because this time, we get a different premise than the previous two films. Our favorite monster friends are on a boat and having the time of their lives with their families. I think this film shows the importance of family and the need to get away from your usual day job every once in awhile.

One of my favorite scenes is when Wayne (Buscemi) and Wanda (Shannon) get a break from the wolf-pups. They’re so happy to just be free and have a chance to spend one on one time together. Family time is important, but so is couple time.

I also enjoyed all of the destinations they stop at during their cruise. It made the trip far more interesting and exciting… especially at the Bermuda Triangle.

It’s the middle of summer, and although I’m craving October, this film really helped bring me out of my slumber. It’s an adventure of a lifetime that you can watch in the comfort of a cozy theater with buttery popcorn, sweet candy, and delicious beverages. You know, out of the blazing sun.

Final Thoughts on Hotel Transylvania 3:

So far, Hotel Transylvania 3 is killing it at the box office, and for good reason. It’s the perfect summer film for the whole family, and will help tide you over until Halloween with all of its monster goodness. If you get a chance to escape the heat, head to your local theater and kick back with a story that will make you laugh, smile, and feel right at home with your favorite monsters and ghouls.
