Silver Scream Con III Brings Murder, Mayhem and Nostalgia Back To Worcester – Event Review

Psychos! We have closed out on 2024’s Silver Scream Con, the third annual horror and music festival created by Ice Nine Kills’ Spencer Charnas to bring genre fans back together after the beloved Rock and Shock Horror and Music Festival breathed its last in 2019. And what a great weekend it was!

Taking place at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA from September 13-15, 2024, this year’s event was the biggest yet. Between the celebrities and vendors, the first floor of the DCU Center was packed to the gills before the first guest even stepped foot through the door.

This year’s guest list included some big names in both horror and music, including Director Eli Roth, Scream alumni David Arquette, Lee Waddell, and Jamie Kennedy, Terrifier director Damian Leone and actors Lauren LaVera, Amelia McLain, Elliott Fullam, and Art the Clown himself David Howard Thornton, Halloween peeps PJ Soles, Nick Castle, John Michael Graham, Danielle Harris, Scout Taylor Compton, James Jude Courtney, and Dr. Loomis’ actual station wagon!

I was so excited to see so many celebs from my favorite horror franchise, Friday the 13th, including Sean S. Cunningham, first Jason Ari Lehman, Warrington Gillette, and the nicest guy in the industry, Derek Mears.

I was also excited to see Ice Nine Kills’ Spencer Charnas, Bill Moseley, Jordan Ladd, Cerina Vincent, Devon Sawa, Shawnee Smith, and the ever lovable Ricky Dean Logan.

Silver Scream Con III offered a double feature on Thursday, September 12 for ticketholders to see INK’s Welcome to Horrorwood (2024), directed by Jensen Noen, and Samuel Gonzalez Jr. and Bridget Smith’s The Retaliators (2021), an event that was hosted by Ryan J. Downey.

The Silver Scream Con III discussion panels were top notch this year as well. There were talks with the makers of INK’s graphic novels, Inked In Blood and Inked in Blood 2: Once Upon A Crime, written by Ryan J. Downey, panels for Terrifier, Scream, F13, Halloween, Idle hands, Saw, and chats with Massachusetts-born Eli Roth, Bill “Chop Top” Moseley, the Talk Scary to Me Podcasters Danielle Harris and Scout Taylor-Compton, and Spencer Charnas and the other members of Ice Nine Kills and Welcome to Horrorwood. My favorite panel had to be the Friday night’s Reign in Horror trivia game, hosted by SiriusXM host and Metal Ambassador Jose Mangin, where 19 groups competed to see if they could survive the ultimate horror and metal trivia challenge.

Horror fans were feeling the Halloween spirit and dressed accordingly. Check out some of these cosplays!

This little girl was standing behind me when I was waiting to chat with Derek Mears, and she completely stole my heart. She wasn’t afraid to meet the F13 actor and even hammed it up for the camera when her parents took their picture. Too cute!

The biggest surprise of the weekend had to be the announcement that INK has teamed up with Damian Leone for Terrifier 3! The band’s song, “A Work Of Art,” inspired by the franchise, will be featured in the film, which releases on October 10, 2024, in select AMC Theaters nationwide. The world premiere will be on September 19th at 2024’s Fantastic Fest at the Alamo Drafthouse Austin, where both the film and the single’s music video will play to the public for the first time.

Check out the announcement below!

Last but certainly not least, on Saturday, September 14, Ice Nine Kills performed for the Silver Scream Con crowd, supported by In This Moment, Aviator, TX2, and First Jason outdoors at Worcester’s famous Palladium Theatre.

Silver Scream Con III is one for the history books! I cannot WAIT to see what Spencer Charnas and the INK crew have in store for us next year!
