Review: Sooner or Later, Family Secrets Creep Out in ‘COBWEB’

Note: This review was written during the 2023 WGA and SGA-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, Cobwebbeing covered here, wouldn’t exist.

New horror films typically do not fly under my radar but occasionally this happens. Cobweb had a limited theatrical release back in June of 2023. The poster has been showing up on my social media newsfeeds piquing my interest. Finally, this got the best of me and I watched the film.

Cobweb Synopsis

An eight-year-old boy tries to investigate the mysterious knocking sounds that are coming from inside the walls of his home, unveiling a dark secret that his parents have kept hidden.

This horror thriller is directed by Samuel Bodin and written by Chris Thomas Devlin. The film stars Lizzy Caplan (Mean Girls 2004), Antony Starr (The Boys 2019), and Cleopatra Coleman (Infinity Pool 2023).

My Thoughts

This horror thriller from the first moments had me locked into a world of terror and fear that the central character, Peter (Woody Norman) experiences. He is constantly terrified of sleeping in his room at night, dealing with his odd parents, and bullying at school. This young actor gives such an excellent performance that is enhanced by the adult actors in the film.

After watching this film, I am absolutely boggled why this film didn’t get the advertising and promotion to support a full theatrical release. It’s great!

Cobweb (2023) is streaming on multiple platforms. Check it out!
