Looking for a thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat? Are plots full of twist and turns a must? If so, Rust Creek (2019) is a movie that may be right up your alley! Find out if it’s something you should check out in the New Year.
Rust Creek is a thriller that is being released by IFC Midnight. It is written by Julie Lipson (The River 2018) and Stu Pollard (executive producer of Split 2016), and directed by Jen McGowan (Kelly & Cal 2014). It stars Hermione Corfield (Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation 2015), Jay Paulson (Electric Dreams 2018), Jeremy Glazer (My Christmas Love 2016), Sean O’Bryan (Olympus Has Fallen 2013), Micah Hauptman (Everest 2015), and Daniel R. Hill (The Resident 2018).
The movie centers around Sawyer (Corfield), a college senior ready to embark on the next stage of her life. She gets a call with an offer for her ideal job and hits the road to make it to the interview. Unfortunately, in route to her destination, she gets lost in the backroads of Rust Creek. Sawyer must quickly learn what it takes to survive against both the elements and the locals.
I had some concerns with the first few scenes of Rust Creek. It felt, to me, as if the film was going to venture into the familiar territory of movies like I Spit On Your Grave (1978) or Wrong Turn (2003). Thank goodness this was not at all the case! Rust Creek provides an original story filled with suspense lurking around every corner.
All of the actors give wonderful performances! Yet, Hermione Corfield provides a portrayal in Rust Creek that really stands out above the rest. Her delivery of Sawyer allows the audience to feel the emotional, physical, and psychological journey that her character is on. It will be exciting to see future performances from this young talent.
The cinematography is superb, especially the shots of the landscape. This cinematic imagery is both beautiful and eerie. It adds to the sense of wonder and fear that Sawyer is experiencing in the desolation of the wilderness.
IFC Midnight is continuing its streak of offering up amazing thriller and horror films. Rust Creek is an absolutely great start with their releases for the New Year! It should be on your must see list, so make sure to check it out when it’s released on January 4, 2019.
