Kerry Mondragon’s (Meet Me At A Funeral) stylized indie drama TYGER TYGER is quite the experience. The film stars Dylan Sprouse (Banana Split), Sam Quartin (Body Brokers), Eden Brolin (Arkansas), Craig Stark (Honeyboy), Max Madsen (Yellowstone), and Barbara Palvin (Giorgio Armani: Light di Gioia).
Synopis for TYGER TYGER
This film follows a woman named Blake (Sam Quartin), who while waiting for her test results during a pandemic, robs a pharmacy for life-saving medication, ditches her insolent boyfriend (Max Madsen), and makes a deal with a drug addict named Luke (Dylan Sprouse), to help distribute the stolen medication in the fringe lands. During the life-or-death adventure, they are chased through the labyrinth of the lawless city by its self-appointed gatekeepers Tammie (Eden Brolin) and Uncle Joe (Craig Stark).
Now that we all have lived through a real-life pandemic, TYGER TYGER hits close to home in the most uncomfortably accurate way possible. Many of us have been eagerly awaiting a vaccine to help move this pandemic along and now it’s finally here. In the film TYGER TYGER there is a life-saving medication to help cure people who are sick but of course, not everyone is qualified, so a group of people has set out to save them but get caught up in new friendships, love, and drugs. The film delivers on all aspects including a beautifully well-written story, relatable characters, and a unique modern age western-drama that centers around survival and the unknown.
Sam Quartin and Dylan Sprouse had phenomenal on-screen chemistry and just vibed off one another. Both of their performances were down-to-earth, emotionally driven, and spectacular. Their relationship throughout the film is what captures the audience and makes you wonder how things will pan out. Eden Borlin and Craig Shark are equally fantastic and the perfect charismatic villains.
The unique western setting was also one of my favorite things about TYGER TYGER. When Blake and Luke arrive at “the lawless city” it feels like a post-apocalyptic atmosphere. It seems like the perfect escape; the simple life and endless drugs. Everyone is doing different things to survive and learning to be self-sufficient without laws or guidelines and are set free of societal expectations. Who needs money when you can trade an item for another item? All of it seems simple until it’s not. But someone always pushes the limits.
