Melrose Avenue and The Funeral Portrait have teamed up to put an undead spin on toxic romance.
“Cemetery Friend” — the latest single from the pop metalcore Aussies featuring TFP frontman Lee Jennings — is a powerfully haunting track, pairing macabre imagery with lyrics that explore themes of emotional obsession and destruction in relationships.

While Melrose Avenue fans are no strangers to “Cemetery Friend,” which the band performed nightly on their inaugural U.S. headline tour [our backstage interview], the collaboration with The Funeral Portrait wasn’t unveiled until closer to the track’s official release at the end of June.
Jennings [our interview] said of the project:
“In May of last year, I was introduced to Melrose Avenue when we both opened for Ice Nine [Kills]. I knew instantly we would all become best friends. They are some of the most genuine and nicest lads I’ve met in the many years I’ve been touring. So when the guys reached out to me about doing a special song together, I instantly said HELL YEAH. Over the last year, we’ve randomly ran into each other at so many shows and festivals, and even [got] to perform the song randomly one night in Hollywood at their sold out headlining gig at The Roxy, which to me was the best way to announce the collaboration together … I appreciate how hard this band works and how much they have learned over the last year. And I’m so proud to be featured on a song from a band I know will be taking over the world!”
The latest release from Melrose Avenue comes as Vlado Saric (vocals) [our interview], Michell Black (guitar), Shawn Mayer (backing vocals and guitar) and Jed McIntosh (drums) continue to garner rapid global attention. As they perform to progressively bigger audiences at festivals like Download and Taste of Chaos, “Cemetery Friend” arrives at the perfect time, showing the masses what they’re capable of lyrically, sonically and visually.
Though their past few releases — “Taste,” “Bad Guy” and “Inside Your Mind” — have been heavily geared to the BookTok portion of their fanbase, “Cemetery Friend” is proof that Melrose Avenue isn’t afraid to go a little darker…and dig some graves while they’re at it.
And tapping the real-life Beetlejuice of rock to join them on this coffin-fueled endeavor was certainly the correct choice.
